TV Rewind: The Vampire Diaries – “The Last Day”

Game-changer

Source: The Vampire Diaries Blood Falls

Shocking. Astonishing. Mind-blowing. Jaw-dropping. Unexpected. There are not enough words I can use to properly describe what exactly happened last night on The Vampire Diaries. I was so far on the edge of my seat the entire episode, I fell off a few (or more) times. I think I might have some bruises. The Last Day was another one of those action packed episodes where you didn’t know which way to turn. Look here! No, look there! Look at Klaus! Now everyone look at Damon shirtless!

Last night, Elena was forced upon something she brutally admitted she didn’t want (There will be some choice words for you later, Elena). Tyler returned to Mystic Falls, while Damon did something stupid (Silly, Damon) and paid the price. And in the end, poor Aunt Jenna … Well, you’ll find out later … at the end of this recap! For those of you who have seen yesterday’s all new episode of The Vampire Diaries, please direct all your questions until the end of the tour, and proceed onwards and downwards. The rest of you, what are you waiting for? Go watch, and then come back here and discuss. In the meantime, this is a SPOILER ALERT!

Oh hey, shirtless Damon. What you been up to lately? Nevermind, Elijah has some things he wants to say. He figures that since tonight is the full moon, Klaus will want to break the curse and live happily ever after as a vampire/werewolf hybrid. They are going to have to act fast. Only, it seems Damon is the one trying to hold them back. He reminds everyone (Elijah, Elena, and Stefan) that they have a super powerful witch in their corner who can eliminate Klaus on the spot. Of course, Elena puts the kibosh on that (again).

Movie Review: Water for Elephants

Welcome to The Most Spectacular Show on Earth!

Source: Photobucket

If you look closely, you’ll see there is something different about this big screen adaptation. Under this Big Top, you’ll find magic. Unlike most movies today, Water for Elephants is classic storytelling at it’s best. Actions, decisions, consequences, words; it’s about following these wonderful characters in a timeless journey of love, loss, and finding a place in this world where you truly belong.

The Story: Set in 1930′s America, Water for Elephants centers around a young Jacob Jankowski (Robert Pattinson). This Cornell educated veterinary student seems to be set in life, but suddenly loses everything after his parents die in a tragic car crash. With no money, no home, Jacob hops aboard the nearest train and finds more than he bargained for. He finds The Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, a struggling second-rate one ring circus. When put in charge of the shows menagerie, Jacob finds himself immediately enchanted by the shows star attraction, Marlena (Reese Witherspoon) and her amazing equestrian act. The only problem is, she is married to August (Christoph Waltz), the charming but unstable ringmaster and owner of the troubled depression era circus. As Jacob’s journey with the show continues, August purchases Rosie – the liquor loving elephant who is seemingly incapable of following a single command; that is, until Jacob discovers the secret to make Rosie perform. Jacob learns that there is more to this circus than beauty and glitz, but what lies beneath the tent floor is violent and malicious. Yet, the true lesson is looking beyond that and finding love amongst the thorns.

TV Rewind: The Vampire Diaries – “Klaus”

Revelations

Source: The Vampire Diaries Blood Falls

Okay. I think I need a moment. My head is still spinning from last nights highly explosive episode. And by ‘highly explosive episode,’ I mean, so-much-was-said-that-I’m-still-not-sure-what-the-hell-is-going-on. There’s no Sun & Moon curse? Klaus is Elijah’s *r*th*r? Damon loves Elena? Wait. We already knew that one. Last night, our favorite prime-time vampire soap opera shoved us out of our little vampire safety net (Much like Elena did to Aunt Jenna) and forced us to rethink our entire understanding of the world according to The Vampire Diaries. Someone (I’m looking at you TVD writers) just pulled the proverbial rug right from under our legs! We just got hit with one revelation after another, until we were left weeping into our homemade Damon pillows and seriously questioning everything that has happened in Mystic Falls this season. Am I right? Seriously, I think we all need a moment to just calm down. Okay, that’s better. Now, how about we take some time and enjoy a recap? For those of you who have seen last night’s episode, follow the vampire brick road onwards and downwards. As for the rest of you, SPOILER ALERT!

Hey, Elena. Waiting for Elijah to get up from his semi-not-really-dead slumber after you pulled that magic knife out of him? Nice. If you don’t mind, we’ll wait with you. *twiddles thumbs * So . . . I have a question. You’ve been waiting a while, huh? And all this time, Damon and/or Stefan never questions where you are? You know vampires have super hearing. They can hear a human heart beat or a knife sliding out of a squishy body a mile awhile, let alone in the same house. If you don’t mind me asking, do the writers think we’ll just let these central details pass, or don’t your vampire protectors care about you all that much? Okay, nevermind. Elijah is waking up now. Dude, you don’t look so good. Wait. Did you just say, Katerina? Woah. Flashback.

TV Rewind: The Vampire Diaries – “The Last Dance”

Inside Job

Source: The Vampire Diaries Blood Falls

Did you hear that? It’s the sound of millions of TVD viewers cringing, crying, and clapping (I love alliteration) after last nights brand spanking new episode of The Vampire Diaries. Who didn’t shed a tear after seeing Bonnie try to sacrifice herself for Elena; or after seeing Alaric’s/Klaus’ (?) cheesy, yet entertaining dance moves? And how could you not clap your little hearts out after those few fleeting (flirty?) moments between Elena and Damon? I don’t think you could. The Last Dance was one rollercoaster of an episode, filled with danger, excitement, and a cheesy center (And that’s why we love Vampire Diaries). Now keep your arms, fangs, and legs inside the vehicle, because we’re about to take a long days journey into Mystic Falls. For those of you who have seen last nights episode, onwards and downwards. The rest of you, Klaus would like to dedicate this to you: SPOILER ALERT!

Hey, Alaric! Oh. Wait. I forgot. You’re Klaus, aren’t you? That whole vampire possessing a human thing (I know. It doesn’t make sense). Well, this is going to be confusing. So, I’ll just call you Klauric. Okay? As we return to Mystic Falls, Klauric is choosing his outfit for his first day of school, while getting up to speed with Katherine. Klauric makes it clear that he really doesn’t want Elijah back from his semi-non-weird death (“That guys such a buzz kill”), so he’s just going to leave that one alone. He also decides that he needs to find out more about this Bonnie situation. Powers or no powers? I have to say, this Klauric is kind of sexy. If he wasn’t evil, I think I might get to like him. Anyhoo, Katherine begs Klauric to kill her (She just wants it over with), but he just wants to have some fun. Klauric compels Katherine to stab her self in the leg repeatedly until he comes home. If she gets bored, she can switch to the other leg.

TV Rewind: The Vampire Diaries – “Know Thy Enemy”

Flip-floppers

Source: The Vampire Diaries Blood Falls

It’s baaaacckk! After those endless weeks, sleepless nights, and vivid Damon dreams, our beloved Vampire Diaries returned to us last night in full force. It was a long wait, to be sure. In fact, it’s difficult to remember what happened last time on our favorite vampire drama. So before we delve into the craziness that happened this week in Mystic Falls, let’s take a little refresher course with The House Guest. Did that help? Good. This week, new allegiances were formed and old ones were broken, we said goodbye to a not-so-beloved character, and in the last-minute of the episode, our jaws dropped and our minds were f****d. Yes. What a night it was . . .  *sigh.* Okay. Let’s fully recap this bad boy, shall we? You know you want it. For those of you who have seen last nights all new fangtastic episode, you know the drill, proceed onwards and downwards. The rest of you, there are no excuses, SPOILER ALERT!

Here we go! I’m so excited! Okay. We pick-up immediately where we left off with the Gilbert door opening to a sad-faced Isobel. Hi. Who are you? I’m Elena’s mother. This can’t be good. Oh hey, you’re the woman that’s dating my husband. Um . . . Isobel, what are you doing here? I just wanna talk. Yeah, no deal. SLAM! It seems that for poor Aunt Jenna, nothing can come easy after finding out Ric and Elena were both lying to her about Isobel’s whereabouts . . . and the fact that she’s still alive (sort of).

Book Review: The Hunger Games

“You don’t forget the face of the person who was your last hope.”

Source: Photobucket

If you’re not living under the proverbial literary rock like I am, you’ve probably already read or heard about The Hunger Games, the first in a three-part series by Suzanne Collins. Well, the time finally came for me to sit down and read this thing cover to cover.

In this post-revolutionary world, the United States has been divided into a twelve district society called Panem, run by the all-seeing dictatorship city called The Capitol. In an attempt to keep their citizens in their place, The Capitol holds a yearly ritual called the Hunger Games, where two citizens (Ages 12 to 18 need only apply) of each district – chosen via lottery style – fight in a battle to the death.

Sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen lives in the poor mining community called the Seam in District 12. Fighting to survive, Katniss illegally hunts and gathers food outside the district fence, in order to put food on the table for her mother and younger sister, Prim. The time comes to announce the contestants of the upcoming Hunger Games, when Prim’s name is called, Katniss volunteers to take her place – leaving behind her prospective love interest and best friend, Gale. To complicate things even further for our heroine, she inexplicably feels a connection to the other District 12 contestant, Peeta Mellark, but is unsure if her feelings are real or manufactured by the omnipresent cameras. In the arena, it’s Katniss’ knowledge of plants, hunting, and self-preservation that give her the upper-hand in the Hunger Games.
