Press Play Friday: Fresh Music 2/24/12

Press Play Friday is back!

Attention all music lovers: I’m back from a rather long music sabbatical – that mostly consisted of listening only to Florence + The Machine for days on end – with some new music, in another edition of Press Play Friday! All right. Please save your applause until the end. For those new to the game, Press Play Friday is your one-stop shop for discovering the latest in music, with featured artists and fresh song suggestions. This week, I’ve searched my extensive iTunes Library for something extra special for you. Grab your headphones, because some of your favorite artists are here, giving you the latest additions to their exclusive repertoires; launching introductions to new albums. For the music obsessed – like myself – some tunes may be familiar. For others, this will be the perfect opportunity to FanGirl or nerd-out about a familiar musician or group. Whatever the case, I want to hear what you think of this fresh music.

Anyone in the mood for some Fun.? While most are just hopping on the Fun. train, I’ve had the fortunate experience of being a fan for a while now – ever since seeing them open for Jack’s Mannequin two years ago. After gaining moderate success with their first album, Aim and Ignite, the group is, once again, bringing their signature style into the mix, debuting their sophomore album, Some Nights. The title track of the album is an anthem of sorts, awarding us with the unique sound Fun. is known for. With a chorus of voices, sweeping melodies, and an electro-pop style, the song is a definite highlight on the new record.

TV Rewind: The Vampire Diaries – “All My Children”

Loophole

Source: The Vampire Diaries Blood Falls

Last night on the all new episode of “Damon: The Vampire Gigolo” . . . oh, wait. Nervermind. This week the residents of Mystic Falls took some time to sit back and relax. Well, not really. While we could consider it to be a ‘sleeper’ episode, the night still held a few surprises. Elijah found himself struggling with his principles. Elena, as always, found herself in another sticky situation. And Damon took the road most traveled; from hero to villain, the vampire easily saved and destroyed everything which stood in his path. It was a night of revenge, of master plans, and crumbling relationships. Once again, we explored the world of The Vampire Diaries, only to find out everything we assumed was wrong . . . except for Crazy Dr. Fell. We all knew that was coming. Now gather ’round, my friends. Let’s pop some popcorn and cuddle with our Damon pillows. This is a SPOILER ALERT!

Poor, Elena. Having trouble deciding between the sexy, brooding vampire, or the other sexy, brooding vampire? Yeah. It’s a hard decision, I know. Elena rings each of her favorite boys, speaking those four dreaded words: “We need to talk.” Stefan takes the slightly higher road, by ignoring her call completely. Damon, on the other hand, snaps at his human. Jerk. The distraught vamp, still recovering from his steamy one-night-stand with Original Rebecca, shields his true feelings and ignores Elena’s constant apologies. That is, until she shows up on his doorstep, very surprised to see Rebecca doing the walk of shame. Surprise! Elena’s confusion over the situation is overshadowed by the knowledge that tonight is the night that Esther will murder all her children. The guilt over Elijah’s potential death is the reason why an extra broody Stefan warns Elena not to screw with the plan. Even Elijah is overly suspicious of his mothers plans, but Rebecca warns him not to challenge the Original Witch. It will only lead to trouble.

TV Rewind: The Vampire Diaries – “Dangerous Liaisons”

Collateral Damage

Source: The Vampire Diaries Blood Falls

It was a night of betrayal; a night of dancing, decisions, discussions, and deceit. It was a night of romance. Sadly, the romance was crushed, stomped on, and set aflame by the end of the evening. The tension was so thick, even Stefan’s teeth couldn’t break the seal. However, there is still hope. Right? *Silence* At least, some? A tiny bit? A thimble full? Okay, moving on. While the episode confirmed our suspicions about a certain Original, it also left us wondering. Have we judged wrong? Could our favorite bad-boy hybrid have a soft side? Can his evil ways be changed by the right vampire? Only time will tell. Last night pushed us into uncharted territory. The road leading to this chaotic setting will be treacherous. Hold on tight. This is a SPOILER ALERT!

Today on As the Vampires Turn, Matt and Elena leave after a late-night at Mystic General – taking time to make sure Alaric is all right after his latest near-death experience. The two seemingly close friends part ways after giving us a quick recap of the events of the past week (i.e. Bringing out the Dead). Elena gets into her car, puts it into drive, and somewhat carefully backs out. BAM! Not carefully enough. Our good human rushes out of her car, thinking she’s hit some poor elderly pedestrian, only to find that’s not the case at all. “Drive much?” Elena comes face to face with a very angry Rebecca. The Original’s fangs are set to sink into the humans flesh when our good friend, Elijah, steps in to intervene. With a new sort of air about him, Elijah presents himself as the premier vampire in town, bringing style and makeovers to all in need (a.k.a. The entire Mikaelson Family. a.k.a. The Original Family).

TV Rewind: The Vampire Diaries – “Bringing Out the Dead”

Prime Suspect | Family Values

Source: The Vampire Diaries Blood Falls

Alright, I’ll give you another thirty seconds of recovery time, and then we’re breaking down this supremely fantastic episode. Ready? 30 . . . 20 . . . 10 . . . 0

Our favorite vampires were back again this week, dishing out the drama in heaping platefuls. Confessions. Take-overs. Death. Mystery. Suspicion. All of these were components in last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries. Strategic moves were made by the cast of players, succeeding in creating a new set of rules. And while a fan-favorite returned, another Mystic Falls resident finally bit the dust; a serial killer on the loose. A confession of love raised the stakes for our favorite love triangle, as suspicion and doubt ruined another would-be couple. In the end, a family stood together to take down its weakest link – hoping for change. Yet the broken pieces were put together once again and a future plan was formed. How did it all happen? What became of our beloved characters? Sit back, relax. Your favorite review/recap is on its way. This is a SPOILER ALERT!

Watch out, Ladies! Elijah is back-in-town and looking super-fine; especially when he starts a fight with his dearly deranged brother, Klaus. Elijah is just a tiny bit mad – which is understandable – since it was Klaus who placed that dagger in his chest. After a few broken pieces of furniture and a couple of put-downs, all is well with the brothers after Klaus admits to killing Old Papa Original. Trying to place himself back into his brothers good graces, Klaus promises to tell Elijah the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, in regards to the exact reason for their mothers death, and so on. All Klaus asks in return, is for Elijah to help him rid the world of Stefan Salvatore, once and for all. Dun, dun, dun!
