FanGirl Addiction: Twilight

“That was the first night I dreamed of Edward Cullen.”

It’s been almost four years since I fell in love with this vampire-romance novel and its subsequent sequels. Over the years, my obsession has gone from excessive to fanatical, casual to calm, but never waning. There was a time when you could find me on the forums, elbow-deep in discussion, talking about anything and everything that had to do with Twilight. There were posters, shirts, buttons. I spent hours reading, imagining this extraordinary world. I was a Twilight addict.

I am a Twilight addict.

There was never a choice. It was always Edward (Oh, wait. I think that’s supposed to be Bella’s line). The idea of soul mates – true love – the main idea of the novels, has been the foremost component in my mind as to why I love the series. Nothing can keep them apart. It doesn’t matter if he’s a vampire or she’s a human, they belong together; fate transcends the impossible.

Somewhere along the line I forgot that; distancing myself from the pop culture phenomenon, completely avoiding the movies, instead keeping myself busy with hours upon hours of fanfiction; keeping close to the domain I once knew, but straying from the source. Two years had gone by and I still hadn’t picked up the well-used anthology. A title I read two or three times year was abandoned, cast to the side! All of a sudden, that didn’t sit well with me. I needed to know these characters again. I needed to find that attraction, what had kept me coming back again and again.

Are You Reading FanFiction?

Am I a certified fangirl now?

Source

Alright. I’m going to say something, or rather, admit to something I’ve never told another living person. Are you ready? Sit down. Breathe in. Breathe out. Here it comes – Wait. I’m not sure about this – I read FanFiction. Yes. That’s right. Save your giggles for later. I. Read. FanFiction. Actually, I’m just starting to read FanFiction. I guess, I figured it was about time. I’ve been delaying it for quite a while now. Plus, now I can truly say I’m a fangirl. Reading FanFiction is like getting your certificate of authenticity. It’s required.

I never had an inclination to read FanFiction before. I didn’t understand it. I didn’t see the point. More than that, I was a skeptic. Now, I’m an addict. Two months ago, for whatever reason, I decided it was time. I let the world of FanFiction take my hand and guide me into the inner sanctum. I didn’t know what to expect. Then as I settled in and read that first chapter, things changed. My FanFic cherry had been popped. Nights that I reserved for sleeping, became nights sitting up until one in the morning, reading until I passed out from exhaustion.

FanFiction is an absolute guilty pleasure. Admittedly, I’ve only read 2.5 stories so far, and all have been Twilight themed. Yet, the stories I’ve read are great. There’s mystery, romance, conflict, and drama. Everything you want out of a good book. Only, it’s FanFiction. I do need to say that FanFic is an acquired taste. It’s not for everybody. You need to accept that most stories don’t deal with normal everyday circumstances. Most are a bit out there (And smutty). Think of FanFiction like any other story or book. Find what you like, and enjoy. There are Harry Potter and Vampire Diaries FanFiction stories. Supernatural FanFiction (I’m looking forward to reading some of those). You can basically find FanFic on anything that you love. There is something for everybody. With that, I give you this recommendation: read FanFiction. Yep, that’s it. Read FanFiction. You can thank me later.

For those who are still FanFic virgins, I send you off into the world with this: fanfiction.net. No other words needed. Explore. Enjoy. Then tell me what you think. The rest of you FanFic readers, tell me what your favorite stories are. Are you a FanFiction addict?

FanGirl Addiction: Gilmore Girls

Time to bring out the Bop It!

I’d like to introduce you to a new little segment I call FanGirl Addiction. We all have a pop culture addiction; be it a T.V show, a book, a person, or a movie. You shouldn’t be ashamed of it. You should embrace it. And that’s why I’m here. This is where you come when you don’t want a cure for your pop culture addiction. Where you discuss your addiction with other people who know what you’re going through. So, welcome! May this be a home for your inner-fangirl.

Now, on to today’s addiction: Gilmore Girls. Yes, once again, I’m a little late boarding this fast talking train, but does that really matter? My love isn’t different just because the show is in repetitive reruns or still in the should there be a movie because we’re not sure mode. It doesn’t matter where you begin. The only thing that matters is how you love this amazing T.V show. So . . . um . . .  yeah. Should we start singing “We are the Gilmore” now? No? Okay.

Right now I’m at a loss for words . . . why do I love Gilmore Girls? Is it the fast talking, coffee drinking, mother-daughter relationship between Lorelai and Rory? Is it the storytelling? Is it the men: Luke, Logan, Dean (Hey, JPad!), Jess, etc? The pop culture eccentric dialogue? Is it Kirk?

The Doctor Is In

Today I finally understand the definition of awesome as I discover David Tennant and Doctor Who

Source: Photobucket

Just a few weeks ago, I had my mind blown by the awesomeness that is David Tennant as Doctor Who. I’m not ashamed to admit I have a huge crush on David Tennant. He is, after all, the definition of awesome. Seriously! Go get a dictionary and look up the word awesome, you will see his picture there.

The months previous to my discovery, I had only heard the name David Tennant and couldn’t really understand why Doctor Who (Especially, the 10th Doctor) was so amazing. Then, late one night (Too over dramatic?), 10pm to be exact on PBS (Being a nerd, I love PBS), the nerd king that is David Tennant appeared on my screen.

I really had no idea of what I was in for. Flying robots, time lords, weird-looking alien-like things, hilarity, awesomeness; It really is an amazing show, mostly due to the super-mega-foxy-awesome-hot (I love mixing fandoms) Doctor. David Tennant is nerdy, funny, and charming as The Doctor (I feel as if I should immediately go and buy a “I Love David Tennant” shirt or at least, a Tardis pencil box). It seems as if this role was made for him.

This is a show for any science-fiction lover. Doctor Who is a science-fiction nerd sandwich filled with cheese, humor, sarcasm and mystery, wrapped up in a suit and trench coat.
