KT Tunstall “Feel It All”

“My heart is on a wire, sitting pretty like a bird.”

There’s an immediate understanding between a soul and a song, an unexplained thought or feeling which passes between them, recognizing the significance the songwriter has buried amidst the combination of notes and lyrics. She has given you her heart, her truth. She has walked away from loss and has composed a piece that have been stripped to its most necessary parts; while we listen with curiosity and wonderment as she tenderly calls, as a love slowly drifts apart, as each verse is unveiled with striking intimacy. She allows her vocal to remain pure and haunting, writing her path to rediscovery on the pads of her fingers and upon the smooth texture of the strings. She has given you a gift that must be embraced with care. She has asked you to find a piece of yourself within the story she writes.

“I’m growing like a seed; rain’s been falling on me. I’ve been covered in cold. I’ve been shrouded and downed. My heart is on a wire, sailing pretty like a bird, but the hunter is out and the eagle is hurt. The word that I feel, feel it all. Yes, I can feel. Feel it all.

I’m looking to the sky and I’ll be listening to the stars; maybe thinking of you and wondering where you are. Do you know what you’ve done for me? You made my branches grow. Now they can play with the wind and they can carry the snow. And they can feel, feel it all. Yes, they can feel. Feel it all.

So, take what you want; leave what you don’t need. I’ll go looking for you. You keep your eye out for me. ‘Cause our hearts are on a wire, sitting pretty like a bird, but the hunter is hunting and the eagle is us. We can feel, feel it all. Yes we can feel. Feel it all.”

Sara Bareilles “Brave”

Let the Words Fall Out

It’s no secret; we’ve been anxiously and impatiently anticipating the return of our favorite smiley songstress, Sara Bareilles, for some time now. Frequently and frantically hoping for another breathtaking album to snuggle with at night; wishing desperately that our musical sweet tooth be satisfied before any inkling of gray hair could be seen. Today, I’m happy to say, our prayers have finally (finally!) been answered. Having rediscovered her ultra-pop roots, Sara B once again shows off her amazing vocals and superb writing skills with the lighthearted power anthem, Brave. Although concentrated melodically with delicious good-for-you fluff, the song demonstrates and signifies a true and significant meaning. Be yourself. Speak up. It’s a lesson we all constantly relearn and struggle with, but Sara B makes the fight sound so easy, and so very conquerable.

“You can be amazing. You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug. You can be the outcast, or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love; or you can start speaking up. Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do when they settle ‘neath your skin. Kept on the inside and no sunlight, sometimes a shadow wins. But I wonder what would happen if you say what you wanna say, and let the words fall out. Honestly, I wanna see you be brave.”

The Blessed Unrest arrives July 16th, 2013

What did you think of Brave? Can’t wait for the new album? Which Sara Bareilles song/album is your favorite? Will you or have you seen her on tour? What did you think of the song’s lyrics? Tell me in the comments!

Florence + The Machine “Over the Love”

Green Light In My Eyes

When the announcement was made, that my beloved Florence + The Machine had fashioned a brand-new tune for Baz Luhrmann’s much-anticipated film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, the appropriate response had been to run around my home in a sporadic like fashion, screaming at the top of my lungs. When a swarm of new trailers for the film had been released, and we were graced with a short preview of the song, my one and only reply consisted of short incoherent babbles, mainly composed of words like, love and need, and now. As you can imagine, when a full-length preview for the track appeared only mere hours ago, my immediate response was to listen to the opulent anthem repeatedly, and to swiftly share it with all of you. You’re welcome. Over the Love is another Florence classic of grandiose perfection. With a luminous clarity to her voice, Florence melts seamlessly into Gatsby’s vogue world – the lyrics detailed with heavy influence from the original novel. Florence’s rare ability to speak directly to your soul allows this track to appear like the night sky, filled with fireworks and shimmering stars. The song surrounds you, holds you until you hear nothing but its echo in your mind. I’ll guarantee you’ll love it.

What do you think of Over the Love? How many times have you listened to it so far? Are you excited to hear any other songs from the soundtrack? Will you see The Great Gatsby? Have you read the novel? Want to confess your love-obsession with Florence + The Machine? Tell me in the comments!

A Very ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas

The Ice-Men Cometh

‘Twas one month before Christmas, when all through the house, not a sound could be heard, except the click of a mouse.

She shook as she heard The Doctor on screen. “The trailer is here!” She shrieked and she screamed.

Away to the computer, she flew like a flash. “I must tell them all about The Snowmen and fast!”

When, what to her wondering eyes should appear, but a new companion in some glitzy new gear.

And then, in a twinkling, she saw on the roof, the Tardis and the Doctor; he seemed quite aloof.

She yelped as she saw him, in spite of herself. He was witty and gruff, but his jolly old self.

His eyes, how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry! They watched the prequel together. “Oh, my.” She liked it, very.

With a wink of his eye and a twist of his head, soon gave her to know, she had nothing to dread.

She spoke not a word, but went straight to her work; wrote down the words and suddenly fangirls went berserk.

And then she heard him exclaim, ere he vanished out of sight, “Watch my special on Christmas. Eight o’clock on Christmas night!”

Music News (10/11/12)

As some of you may have already heard, this past month we received some very surprising news from Jack’s Mannequin and their frontman, Andrew McMahon. After seven years, the band has decided to go their separate ways. At this point in time, I’m still living in denial, telling myself that it has all been a part of my overactive imagination. However, it’s not. When you look for that familiar JM web address, you’ll find it’s no longer there; every trace of it, gone. In its place, we find this:

Two Advil pm and 3 ounces of bullet rye later it occurs to me I have something to say. To the wall, to myself, to anyone who will listen. I enjoy operating in this space, late at night when the questions become riddles and the present tense becomes the past, shoring up hope at morning’s edge. As indicated by the page these words appear on and the mere existence of the words themselves, I am once again in transition. The truth is I am always so, and while for me it seems less like news and possibly for you too, I wish to clear what is left of the summer air. In approximately one day from the time these words are written, the double life I have been living will be filed away. A digital memory. I don’t chose this despite myself or the things I have created, and certainly not despite you. Quite the contrary, this is celebration of those things and the mysterious racket their separation has made inside my head. The truth is we all live inside ourselves, whether it’s the right thing to do or not. I have asked many things of many people. Follow me this way or that, up or down. Watch me dismantle one bomb to simply build a new one. It’s exhausting some times and while I never know the plan, it seems there is one. Maybe you’re tired of following and if so I wouldn’t blame you. If not though and for your information, I will be trading in old masks for one with my name written on the inside. I’m still learning how to wear it, but it feels good most days and it seems to match fingerprints. (Source)

Yes, Andrew McMahon will continue to create; to make magnificent music. Though we will always feel the loss, we must move on. I am still, and will always be a Andrew McMahon fan, first and foremost. Jack’s Mannequin was simply another short, wonderful stop on this long, beautiful journey. As a thank you to fans, Jack’s has released one last song. Wrecking Ball Heart is the final stop on this tour, available for your awaiting ears for free. Listen, download, and enjoy.

Now, if you’ll excuse. I’m going to cry myself to sleep.

0:18 – “Am I dead?” No, sweetie. You’re a vampire! Awesome, isn’t it? Oops. Apparently not.

0:30 – “There is no way out of it! You feed or you die.” Thanks for the pep talk, Damon.

0:37 – Bonnie has some wild, crazy “keep Elena human” scheme up here sleeve. I don’t like it.

0:42 – At least Caroline & Tyler are enjoying some frisky fun. Whoa! Wait a minute. I mean, Caroline & Klaus? Huh. Still confusing.

0:43 – Nothing new here, just Damon threatening some dude. Elijah, is that you?

0:53 – Who the hell is that guy? And why does he want to kill all the supernatural folk in town?

1:00 – “Stefan, I’m dying.” I’m sorry, Elena. I don’t think that’s going to happen. You’re a vampire now. Deal with it. Feed, Woman!

Nerd News: The Scoop – Fall Season Spoilers

Welcome back, old friends

It’s that time of year, again. The time when your DVR becomes your best friend, and nights once dedicated to endless summer fun become nights dedicated to sitting on your couch with a bowl of popcorn and your favorite show on the telly. Reruns are no more. Yes, the Fall TV season is right around the corner, kids. Tell me, what better way to kick it all off than with some newly prepared spoilers? I knew you’d agree with me. Go on, take a look.

The Vampire Diaries

As you probably already know, since I’m sure you’ve been tirelessly counting down the days, The Vampire Diaries return October 11th. With the exception of a few blurbs about casting and some minor comments from Comic Con, not much has been said about the fourth season of our favorite drama. Luckily, all that’s about to change.

If you’re completely compromised by the swoon worthy Joseph Morgan – and follow him on the Twitter – your fears about his immediate future on the show will have been put to rest. Yes, it seems bad boy Klaus is back to work. No need to worry your pretty little heads. Hopefully. You never know with these TVD writers. Speaking of . . . Hey, Julie Plec! What can you tell us about that whole love triangle thing we obsess over again and again and again? You know the one.

Nerd News: The Doctor’s Return

“Who killed all the Daleks?”

Warning! The 11th Doctor is back, and things are about to get a whole lot more awesome. Seriously. He’s the Doctor. You shouldn’t be surprised that the first official teaser for Season 7 is just that epic. It’s a total given, considering. From the looks of it, when the series returns this fall, the Doctor and his faithful companions will find themselves in even more bizarre, dangerous situations than ever before. From New York City to the Wild Wild West, from facing a frightening number of Daleks to dinosaurs . . . on a spaceship, nothing is out of the realm of possibility for our beloved Doctor. However, this will be a somewhat bittersweet moment for our favorite characters, as we must say goodbye to Rory and Amy Pond to make way for a new companion. The trailer promises a season full of off-the-wall adventures with the eccentric Doctor (as usual), but enough heart-stopping drama to keep us all on the edge of our seats. Go on, take a look and tell me what you thought of the trailer. Oh, and beware the Weeping Angels.

What did you think of the trailer for the new season of Doctor Who? What was your favorite scene? What episodes are you looking forward to? Who is your favorite Doctor Who villain? Favorite Doctor companion? Tell me in the comments!

David Tennant: A Nerdist Interview

Why so awesome?

This past week – without any new episodes of TVD or Supernatural to obsess over – I took some time to play catch-up with my favorite podcasts. You should have seen my FanGirl self giggle and cheer with excitement when I found this little gem eagerly waiting for me, because, let’s face it, who doesn’t love the utterly fantastic and hilarious David Tennant? Our Nerdist Podcast host, Chris Hardwick, talked with the 10th Doctor about his past TV and film roles, the shocking things you find in Doctor Who FanFiction, his love of comic books, future projects, and (of course) Doctor Who. You can listen and download the podcast on iTunes HERE, but after that, you must promise to come right back and tell me what you thought of the sexy Scottish actor’s appearance. Okay? Okay. See you soon!

What did you think of the podcast? What was your favorite moment? Are you a Tennant fan? A Doctor Who fan? What is your favorite Nerdist Podcast interview? Tell me in the comments!
