Anytime I listen to the mellow sounds of Indie-Pop duo, She & Him, my mind begins to embark on a fanciful journey; a journey to a world that’s been shaped around wistful thieves and sentimental hearts. I imagine it to be a place designed from the lost dreams of our youth, where the surrounding countryside and community sporadically transform from stark pencil outlines to vivid scenes of animation. Where conversations are only preformed in song and elaborate dance sequences are staged daily. She presides over the land, hair bound with ribbon, traveling from sea to sea, swinging and singing from an oversized red balloon. All the while, He waits for her return, strumming guitar strings and scribbling long lines of lyrics on sidewalks.
Never Wanted Your Loveis the latest collaboration between them. A purposeful construction of opposing motifs, the tune advertises a jovial melody, but internally displays breakup and heartache. Although promoting an instantly relatable theme, the track’s bright-eyed refrains prove themselves to be a proper distraction, preventing you from observing the reflective lyrics too closely. The song is charming and catchy, without being bothersome. Lighthearted, yet thoughtful. Caressed by tenacious stings and gleeful hand claps, Deschanel and Ward have fashioned a tune with a vintage impression, which will have most returning for additional helpings. Their new album, aptly named Volume3, isset to debut May 7, 2013.

I’ve been losing sleep. I’ve been keeping myself awake. I’ve been wandering the streets for days and days, and days. Going from row to row, bed to bed, lover to lover, and black to red. But I believe. I believe . . . there’s no salvation for me now; no space among the clouds. And I feel I’m heading down, but that’s alright. That’s alright!
And I’ve been taking chances. I’ve been setting myself up for the fall. And I’ve been keeping secrets from my heart and from my soul. Going from row to row, bed to bed, lover to lover, and black to red. But I believe. I believe . . . there’s no salvation for me now; no space among the clouds. And I feel I’m heading down, but that’s alright. That’s alright!

Here we are again. You know I just can’t help myself when it comes to our favorite redheaded songbird. This time, Florence is back with another visual adventure – defining the next hit-single off of Ceremonials. We’ve come to expect the usual imaginative, out of the box musical spectacular when it comes to Florence’s styled music videos, and I can assure you, this time is no different. Spectrumbegins with ease; Florence’s stunning look intensified by sharp cuts to her electric auburn hair. Fiery color. Sharp reflections of light. As the song gains momentum, our songstress is encircled by an assembly of ballet dancers swaying to the song’s fierce sounds. Florence’s moves are grandiose, larger than life. She is a disco queen. She rises from the cool blue water like a sea goddess. She even has her own Mini Me! The visual accompaniment to the signature dance-track is complete with a rainbow of bright tones, theatrical choreography, and the slightest bit of the risqué. The final scene brings Florence to her knees, crawling toward us, closing the sensational power-anthem. I always seem to find myself wondering what it is I exactly watched after each of these unique performances from Flo, but by the end, I can’t help but be wonderstruck by the originality of the piece. You will love Spectrum for the song, obviously, but will be enchanted by the video’s fun, quirky nature. Take a look, my friends; observe the Flo in her natural habitat. Tell me what you think.

Almost three years after gaining worldwide über success with the ‘totally awesome,’ A Very Potter Musical, the genius brains behind Team Starkid are back with another spectacular musical parody. This time, the team traveled even deeper into geekdom, taking on the beloved Dark Knight of Gotham City, twisting well-known stories into their own brand of catchy show tunes and hilarious one-liners. Batman (Joe Walker), in this epic tale, begins to realize hero work is a lonely enterprise. Even his trusted butler, Alfred – played by Chris Allen and his very spot-on Michael Caine impression – is deemed unworthy of Batman’s love. Enter, Dick Grayson, a.k.a Robin (Nick Lang). Together the two hero’s are unstoppable, fighting crime and breaking into song. Meanwhile, the rogue villains of Gotham are uniting – ready to take down Batman and his cohort; led by the pun-centric, Sweet Tooth. The candy coated villain, played by Jeff Blim, is flawless in his standout performance. Not to miss, is the evildoer’s anthem, Rogues Are We. In the end, Batman saves the day, picking up some knowledge along the way, finding friendship in the least likely of places. The musical comedy easily induce’s side-splitting laughter and the jovial eighties styled tunes will stay with you for hours on end. There is no doubt. It’s another effortless hit for Team Starkid. Take a look, friends. Tell me what you think.

Florence Welch sways above the New York City backdrop – wind gliding through her auburn hair – as a chorus of Catholic school children accompany her melodic voice. All the while, the candles flicker and dim, while a voodoo priest dances to the relentless drum beat of No Light, No Light. Our musical songstress takes flight, fleeing her demons. God. Religion. Love. Death.“You want a revelation. You want to get it right.” Florence seemingly jumps from her heavenly perch; falling – begging for someone to catch her. Breaking the glass ceiling, she settles in the arms of the choir. A soft caress. A kiss. A whisper. Florence’s eyes open to her savior, her lover. We expect nothing less than the usual eccentric storytelling we receive from every Florence + The Machine music video, and No Light, No Light is no different. The visual metaphors spill into every crevice of the expressive picture, hiding images for you to catch and decipher. A woman finding a skeptical romance in the arms of her lover? A lost soul, running away from heartache? There are so many perceptions and images voicing their words in this visually engaging video, that it takes at least a couple of views to understand and appreciate the presented artwork. I think all of you Florence Fans will undoubtedly recognize and love the newest addition to the group; finding the artistic sights of the video Flo-worthy. Take a gander, friends. Tell me what you think of the latest from Ceremonials.

This post has been brought to you by the number 18. Eighteen more days until the season three premiere of The Vampire Diaries! Oh, yeah. It’s true, my fellow TVD fans. We don’t have that much longer to wait. Soon our Thursday nights will be filled with bad-ass vampires (I’m talking to you, Stefan. Don’t let us down), lots of sinfully sweet Delena moments (We’re all counting on this one), and fangtastic crazy plot lines. So to help us get in the vamp spirit, here is The Hillywood Show‘s wonderfully hilarious Vampire Diaries parody. I know you’ll love it.
Did you love the parody? Can’t wait for the new season of TVD? Have any predictions for the new season? Tell me in the comments!
Do you want to go on a journey? A journey into . . . space? The answer is yes. Yes, you do. Once again, the lovely and talented people of Team Starkid (The brains behind A Very Potter Musical) have proven just how awesome they are with their newest hit, Starship. Here’s the story: All Bug (Joey Richter) wants to be is a Starship Ranger, but he has one problem. He’s not human. Can this one bug make his dreams come true and save the universe in the process? With music and lyrics by Darren Criss, Starship is one musical and hilarious adventure into space.
“Then, on the fourth day, he roped himself a couple of sea turtles, lashed ‘em together, and made a raft.”
Eight years later and we’re still waiting for Jack Sparrow (I’m sorry, Captain) to sail to our local movie theatre. Once again, this summer marks the return of our favorite pirate. Unfortunately, he’s missing two of his fellow cohorts, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. So while we wont be seeing Davy Jones and his fair lady any time soon, it seems we will be on the look out for mermaids, zombies, and Black Beard. Secretly, my 16-year-old FanGirl self is jumping up and down and quoting The Curse of the Black Pearl in its entirety (Yeah, she can). On the other hand, my adult FanGirl self is still not sure what to make of Captain Jack Sparrow’s return. The trailer boosts plenty of that playful Captain Jack humor and pirate angst, but . . . never mind. You know I’m going to see it.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides sails into your local cinema on May 20, 2011
