The Interview
This was the not the first time Damon had been tethered to a tree, nor would it be his last. He scratched at his vervain-soaked bindings, hoping to quickly free himself, but his captor was far too observant.
“Is something bothering you?” the hunter asked in his stocky Scottish accent.
Damon laughed under his breath. Where to begin? Had he stayed put last night, instead of traipsing around the island by himself, he wouldn’t be in this situation. Though his fight with Elena had left him wounded, he would give anything to be back in her arms where he belonged. Being held captive by an insane hunter was not on his list of things to do today.
“Would you believe me if I said, mosquitos?”
Vaughn looked back at Damon, unamused. “Do your friends in Mystic Falls think you’re funny?”
Damon hitched his eyebrow, “You’ve been spying on me?”
“Aye.” He had been following them for a while now, learning everything he could about them, about Elena, Bonnie . . . Jeremy. He held out his hand, showing Damon his own hunter’s tattoo. It wasn’t until three days ago that his mark completed, for no apparent reason.
“Come on, man. Do I look like I know anything about tattoos? My skin, it’s flawless.”
Vaughn bowed his head in defeat, he had little patience for this kind of thing. He knew he wouldn’t get anywhere unless he gave Damon some incentive. Picking up the steel rod to his right, he pushed the sharp tip into Damon’s creamy, alabaster skin.
“My name is Galen Vaughn, and you’d better start talking.”
