Honestly, I woke up yesterday morning prepared to breakup with TVD. Now, I’m not so sure. I’ll admit, last night’s season finale was far from extraordinary, but it did remind me of why I loved the show in the first place. It had one of my favorite Klaus moments. Ever. A Delena moment that left us speechless. Although, one that would have made more of an impact several episodes ago. Let us not forget, the abundance of bewildering, messed up twists and cliffhangers. In all seriousness, I’m confused. Just when I thought I was out, you pull me back in. Why can’t I quit you, TVD? Why?!

It’s no wonder Stefan considers Lexi his best friend. They’ve got a lot in common. She’s got killer dance moves, not to mention a long-standing grudge against Damon. You remember Lexi, right, Damon? Luckily, for you, she’s not one to waste precious time – like Stefan. Quickly connecting the dots, Damon realizes the fact that Alaric and Little Gilbert are all fleshy and real-like, something must have gone terribly, terribly wrong. Stefan, meanwhile, has been drowning his sorrows in bourbon and grooming his hero hair. He’s denying it, but it’s totally true. Seriously, fellas. Get it together. It’s time to haphazardly throw together some kind of temporary not-so-smart solution to your not-so-small problems. Look at Bonnie! She’s up and around, pretending like she’s still alive, even though she’s as dead as a doornail. You don’t want Boring Bonnie to show you up, do you? Think about it for a while. I’m going to spend some time with Alaric and the Gilbert’s.

Although they’ve been separated for some time and besides the fact that two out of the three are dead, the family manages to laugh and smile, joking about burning down houses and the lack of greasy fast food and whiskey in their lives. With Elena back to her mostly normal vampire self, it’s the best reunion they ever could have hoped for, considering the circumstances. Of course, their happy little bubble has to pop sooner rather than later.

Which one?
Connor. Connor Jordan.
Oh.
Yeah.
Do you need something?
No. Not really. Just wanted to tell you that I’m back, and if you don’t give me the cure, I’m going to kill all your friends.
Oh, okay.

Meanwhile, Rebekah has been having a little reunion of her own. Some might call it a kidnapping, but that’s neither here nor there. Matt’s life is in danger (again) and there’s no time for nitpicking. Rebekah tries to reason with Alexander, her former lover, getting nowhere in the process. He seems to have borrowed a few tips and tricks from Connor, using explosives as a bargaining technique to demand the return of Silas’ cure. Rebekah keeps Matt calm, telling him about all the places they’re going to see, all the things they’re going to do. Telling him how truly living means doing the thing you’re most afraid of. Rebekah attacks him and plants a nice smooch on his lips, as Matt returns it eagerly. About time too, considering how long she’s had a crush on him. Shockingly, it is now Rebekah who stands on the detonator. She orders Matt to safety, stepping off the platform and into the fire. “I finally chose one of the good ones.” 

At the Salvatore home, Damon receives an unexpected visitor: the adorably sexy, Charlie Bewley. Cough! Vaughn. I mean, Vaughn. The hunter wastes no time greeting the vampire, choosing instead to shoot him in the shoulder with a venom laced bullet. Probably not the proper way to greet an old friend – that Damon inadvertently killed – but threats don’t seem to have the same effect when a slow and violent death isn’t attached to it. Stefan rips Vaughn’s heart out before he can finish his menacing monologue or see how kick-ass Alaric was when he stopped Connor from blowing up The Grill. Which is sad, because that was kinda awesome. It’s also quite sad that Stefan and Damon don’t realize until sometime later that with no other side in place, Vaughn is going to wake up and want to, but won’t get the chance to beat up their cute little asses. Damon made sure of that.

The scene where Damon and Elena have The Talk: She should have known this would happen. He was being all adorable again, all sweet and understanding. He handed over the cure so selflessly, like he was Stefan’s funnier, better looking clone. If it wasn’t for the fact that he was dying, she might have taken it. If those brainwashed steroid taking hunters didn’t want it, she probably would have. But he was and they did. She couldn’t and wouldn’t take it. Still, she didn’t want it to go to Vaughn. What the hell was he thinking?

Damon takes Vaughn to the ravine, telling him to dive in, stalling for time until Caroline can get a hold of Klaus and they can all graduate. Nevermind that Damon has two new bullet wounds or that the werewolf poison is about to kill him, tossing their hats in the air is more important. Bitter? Me? No. Thankfully, there is one person we can always trust. Alaric. His surprise appearance startles Vaughn, whom he tosses off the edge of the wall and into the water. So long, Charlie. He also happened to snag the cure as he did so. Alaric’s such a great guy.

Damon still won’t take the cure, though. Plus, there’s a bunch of witches about to throw down, bring it on? I’m not sure. The point is, Elena & Co. are in danger. Damon and Alaric are super busy at the moment, so they’re out. Tyler’s still MIA. Stefan is, well, Stefan. Where’s a knight in shinning armor when you need him? Oh, I’m right here, love. Klaus! Our beloved bad boy saves the day as we all sigh and wish for our own personal Joseph Morgan look-alike vampire hybrid. Or, maybe, that’s just me? No, I think Caroline feels the same way. I think we ALL feel that way, especially after this. Knowing she would never agree to move to New Orleans with him, Klaus valiantly vows Tyler’s freedom. Why, though, she asks. “He was your first love, I intend to be your last; however long it takes.” SWOON. I’M DEAD. BEST SCENE EVER.

Okay, maybe it’s a tie.

Damon broods silently, staring at the flames in the fireplace, bourbon in hand, Elena on his mind. She’s determined, angry. After the stunt he pulled today . . . he’d better apologize. Now.

“I’m not sorry, but you know what I really am? Selfish; because I make bad choices that hurt you. Yes! I would rather have died than be human. I rather die right now than spend a handful of years with you, only to lose you when I’m too old and sick, and miserable; and you’re still you. I’d rather die right now than spend my last final years remembering how good I had it and how happy I was. Because that’s who I am, Elena, and I’m not going to change. And there’s no apology in the world that encompasses all the reasons why I’m wrong for you.”

Oh. Wow. Elena? Rebuttal.

“Fine, then I’m not sorry either. I’m not sorry that I met you. I’m not sorry that knowing you has made me question everything. That, in death, you’re the one that made me feel the most alive. You’ve been a terrible person. You’ve made all the wrong choices. And of all the choices that I’ve made, this will prove to be the worst one, but I’m not sorry that I’m in love with you! I love you, Damon. I love you.”

Finally! Though, I guess you two aren’t worried about the sire bond and  . . . Oh. That doesn’t matter anymore? There isn’t one? Um, that doesn’t make sense. Just because she turned her emotions back on, doesn’t mean she’s free. It was there before when she had her emotions, why – Ouch! That hurt. Yes, I see they’re kissing. Yes, I’ll shut up.

The scene where Stefan and Elena have The Talk:

E: I want you to have the cure.

S: No, I think you should have it.

E: You are a terrible vampire. You take it.

S: Nope.

E: Well, I’m not taking it.

K: Arg!

This is more exhausting than Jeremy and Boring Bonnie. He loves her. She loves him. She’s dead. He’s not. Yeah, nice surprise. Although, you couldn’t bring a few back with him, Bonnie? Sure, we’re getting rid of you – a season or two late – but what about Alaric? His show’s been canceled. He needs a place to stay. Fine! Be that way, but I’ll remember this. GRRRRR.

Wait a minute. I didn’t grrrrr. Katherine? Jeez, will you stop hitting Elena? She doesn’t have a better life than you. Her life sucks, really. She has no family, no home.  The audience can barely stand her at times. She may have a man in her life now, but how long do you think that’s going to last? Her life is a mess, just like yours. Maybe living as a human for a while will make you appreciate everything that you’ve got. With her life hanging in the balance, Elena shoves the cure down Katherine’s throat. It’s time she got her just desserts.

Final Scene: Stefan. Poor, lonely Stefan. All alone and hurting (Couldn’t you wait to tell Damon you loved him, Elena? At least until after Stefan left the other room?), the bitch slapped vampire takes the solid rock remains of Silas and pauses. Curious, he looks into the bag, hoping to discover the ancient’s true identity. Only, he’s not there. Yoohoo! Behind you. Stefan jumps back, shocked to see Silas in a Elena meatsuit. The spell that turned him into stone died the moment Bonnie did. Here’s the kicker, though. Silas created the immortality spell, so nature (or in this case, the TVD writers) decided that to balance all that evil, there needed to be a version of Silas that could die. A shadow self. A doppelgänger. Who’s doppelgänger, exactly? You’re not looking into a mirror, Stefan. Silas just pwned your ass. I bet you regret buying that super, heavy-duty safe now, don’t ya?

1. Damon: “You’re just going to sit there and let her enact her ghostly revenge?”

2. Damon: “I guess that’s one way to celebrate the supernatural apocalypse.”

5. Stefan: “Maybe I’ll move to Australia. I can live in a yurt.”

6. Damon: “Elena, there are children present.”

7. Damon: “I guess I should have told you to bring some scuba gear, huh?”

8. Elena: “I kinda sorta missed the deadline. You know, being an emotionless bitch.”

FYI, this post has nothing to do with my unconventional and somewhat quirky crush on the super-duo, dream-team, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright. Oh, who am I kidding? It totally does. Admit it, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz changed the way we view comedic features. We don’t have to settle for silly farces with idiotic plot lines or the standard formulated romantic comedies anymore. We can demand better. With Pegg and Wright’s influence, satires can be smart and witty, silly and creative, grisly and heartfelt. They’ve singlehandedly altered our expectations regarding comedic films. Which is why the announcement of The World’s End came with such considerable amounts of excitement and despair. This will be the third and final chapter in the team’s starter series. Although, I doubt this will be the last adventure we’ll see from a Pegg and Wright coupling. It would be a shame if it were.

Unsurprisingly, The World’s End trailer offers up a mix of familiarity and welcomed, cool insanity. In this tale of friendship and potential apocalyptic destruction, five mates reunite to repeat a failed pub crawl. However, find the town that they grew-up in changed considerably – being overrun by aliens and all. Pegg’s usual sweet and determined character has been exchanged for a darker, bad boy personality. Fences still aren’t easily jumped over and there are still many pints left to drink. Martin Freeman and Nick Frost also make return appearances for the film. It looks like another potential underground hit, though I don’t know how we could have ever expected anything less.

The World’s End begins August 23, 2013. Will you be there?

NEWS ALERT! Kim the FanGirl will not be making an opening statement this week. Officials say the omission has been caused by recent events involving History teachers, hunters, and long-awaited cliffhangers. Stand by for your regularly scheduled programing. You’ve been warned. This is a SPOILER ALERT.

With gradation soon approaching, it’s time to focus on the important things, like controlling emotions, brutal revenge, and Pilates. Though Elena is cured of her ridiculous obsession with unemotional aloofness, thanks to Stefan (Dude!), she has only one seriously unsuitable goal in mind: killing Katherine. She has her reasons, of course. Good reasons, seeing as the Vampire Bitch did kill her brother/cousin. However, everyone is against the idea. Why? We have no idea. Yeah, Elena might suffer from a nervous breakdown after, but weren’t we expecting that anyway? Still, Stefan has put his foot down, and he means business. Besides, Elena is acting a bit funny. Seriously, what’s with the attitude, Elena? It’s getting harder to differentiate between you and your evil alter ego. Rage is not a good look on you, Sweetie. I miss the overly emotional, self-sacrificing Elena, as hard as it is to believe. Hopefully, Stefan can whip your butt into shape before the episode is through; and I don’t just mean with the workouts and whatnot. Girl, you really need to take a chill pill.

Bonnie Bennett, on the other hand, have you looked in the mirror lately? I mean, could you be any creepier? The super-witch has been all business, tethering Katherine to her – who just happens to have the headstone needed for THE spell – making sure the devious vamp stays on the straight and narrow until Katherine’s request can be accepted. You know, the one where Bonnie promised Katherine true immortality. Yeah, I don’t get it either; but that’s what she wants and that is what Katherine’s going to get. Maybe. Probably not. Bonnie’s hard work (?) linking the Expression triangle (A.k.a. Connecting the three locations where three mass murders were committed, so she can unlock the door to the other side) seems to have paid off, though. The veil is down, creating an apocalyptic like storm in Mystic Falls.

Stupid, though he sometimes can be, Stefan brilliantly – Okay, maybe not so brilliantly – uncovered Boring Bonnie’s final destination by himself: Mystic High. With Caroline, Damon, and Elena (Whose brilliant idea was that? Oh. Oops) as his backup, the team begins their search for the witch, before she can escort every dead supernatural creature into their small town. As one would assume, that would be a very bad idea. Sort of. Little did they know . . .

With Elena hell-bent on getting to Katherine, Damon knows that Elena has the potential to screw up their plan with her murderous intent. He orders her to stay put and she shoves a stake in his abdomen. Not very lady-like, you must admit. Luckily, in his time of need, his best buddy is there to help him. No, I don’t mean Stefan. I mean, ALARIC FREAKIN’ SALTZMAN! Oh, how we missed you.

It’s around this same time that Bonnie finally realizes linking herself to Katherine was a really bad idea. Elena – free of her babysitters – finds her foe rather easily, making her death a slow torture. Too slow, actually. Stefan stops Elena before she can do any real damage to Katherine or to Bonnie. Stefan lays on the guilt, making her realize that she can’t avoid loosing someone she knows and loves. She has to face her grief and she has to do it now. Elena hits back. Literally. She slaps Stefan in the face, a little too late to make a difference.

Unfortunately, some of the other ghosts aren’t out for a little fun on the town and a hug like “This Show Was Better When I Was On It” Alaric. Poor Rebekah had been so close to romancing Matt, but what do you know? Her dead brother walks in. Looking for Elena, I might add. Matt tries to delay the Original, but it’s all for naught. Kol spikes a half-broken bottle at the human, effectively ending their brief conversation. Rebekah leaves to grab a first aid kit – Matt denying her vampy help – but finds something rather surprising. Caroline. Brainwashed. Repeatedly cutting herself. Which means . . .

Silas has some serious freaky-deaky power. The super-old immortal has been toying with Bonnie this whole time, making her see what he wants her to see, who he wants her to see. Caroline. Stefan. Alaric. Creepy looking guy. Her mind isn’t safe. No one is safe, especially Bonnie. Silas takes away her breath, forcing her to drop to her knees in pain. Only, it’s make-believe. It isn’t real. Grandma Bennett appears to her protégé, reminding her how strong she is, how easily she can defeat Silas; the ancient whose Alaric meatsuit was no match for Damon. He grabs onto the ancient with a weirdly convenient rope of iron, allowing Bonnie to work her magic. She turns him into stone.

Later that night, Elena gives up. She falls onto Jeremy’s grave, crying, unwilling to move on. She doesn’t want to move on. She just wants her brother back and Kol just wants revenge. He gives her a much-needed ass kicking, monologueing in the process. Which, as all evil doers should know, is a one way street to decapitation. Jeremy appears just in time, distracting him so Stefan can kill him. Elena clings to her brother, finally at peace, finally able to put her emotions right. They say goodbye for one last time. Or until some other loon tries to bring back the dead. Speaking of . . . Bonnie thinks it’s a grand ol’ idea to get Jeremy back for good. Of course, it isn’t. She dies trying to bring him back. Really, she dies. No, I’m serious. Bonnie dies. I’m not kidding. Bonnie is dead. She may or may not be a ghost, but who really knows at this point. The thing is, when she died, um. Well, she might not have put the veil back up. No! Don’t freak out. I’m sure it’s only temporary. I mean, it’s not like the writers would actually allow Alaric and Lexi (Lexi!) to stay. Even though we all really, really, really, want that. Pshaw! That would never happen. They would, however, allow three mostly evil dead hunters stay for an episode – create some drama. Plus, they might also try to shove the cure down Elena’s throat. No! Stop shouting. I’m sure that won’t happen. Right?

Initially, the thought of Andrew McMahon trading-in his iconic piano for a full-on synthesizer sounds a bit blasphemous and ludicrous. The Piano Man is a legend around these parts; a lyrical genius in the eyes of many. Still, we remained profoundly hopefully when the announcement was made excitedly stating McMahon would be embarking on his first-ever solo journey. Astonishingly, it was only a week prior to the album’s release that I was informed of the its upcoming arrival. Like most, I had been expecting the traditional mix of anthems and ballads. Never would I have believed I would instantly fall for any kind of “new and improved” version of what I’ve been accustomed to and attached to for years. In all honestly, The Pop Underground was a resplendent surprise for me. Eventually, the thought of Andrew McMahon trading-in his famed piano for a cutting-edge synthesizer sound seems flawlessly acceptable and significantly late in its arrival.

I’m not going to lie to you, though. It’s different. Some actually might find this extreme departure too much to handle. Gone are the intricate and elaborate piano themes, the untouched vocals, and the intense power-house melodies. The EP is a path previously untraveled. It’s flashbacks and dance tracks; synthesized waves and handwritten letters. It’s classic versus contemporary; a mixture of revolving rainbow lights and personal growth. Andrew’s lyrics are awe-inspiring as usual, and the tracks are immaculate and memorable, despite the drastic deviation. Truthfully, it is impossible to not love every single thing he does.

Synesthesia - the first tune off the record – appears like long, drafted letter to a constant companion. It’s a love song in the way only Andrew could write: “I see colors when I hear your voice/I could love you in the falling rain.” Synesthesia might be considered the close to McMahon’s previous work melodically, but sets itself apart with its enhanced harmonic chorus, punches of polished synthesized guitar pulls and keyboard clicks. It introduces us to a modified way of thinking about what we want and need from McMahon’s music. Change is inevitable, but most decidedly welcomed.

I can imagine this next track perfectly incorporated into a room filled with swaying bodies and various kinds of luminous jewelery. Catching Cold is a dance track, plain and simple; an improved upon 80′s disco-club anthem. It quickly became a favored track with its dark, dominate lyrics and vivacious strains of fluttering electric keyboard chords. The bass hums, knocks and remains like a shadow. Jump! It begs you. Sing! It commands. “It will only take a little while ’till your highs will become my lows. Barely moving, then you’re running wild. Catching fire like you’re catching cold.”

Reflecting on the past; living like there’s no tomorrow. Learn to Dance resembles a kind of song we likely could have seen on The Glass Passenger. McMahon’s signature vocal is at its optimum familiarity, raspy and low transforming into one of strength and height. The chorus is somewhat kitschy, but is offset by the infused, standard enjoyable McMahon percussive refrains. Live. Dance. Love. It’s a repetitive theme throughout McMahon’s music. Sooner or later, we have to take what he says to heart.

The standout, undoubtedly, has to be the record’s grand finale, After the Fire. It was the first track I had listened to and the one that seems to constantly participate in those frequent middle-of-the-night ipod meetings. It makes me feel all fuzzy inside, like sunshine and rollercoasters, palm trees and flip-flops. It makes me remember all those times I’ve said how Andrew’s music sounds better with the wind in your hair and the radio volume set on eleven. It makes me want to dance, and I should tell you, I don’t dance. ‘The song comes crashing though a cloud so black and full of rain (of rain), after the fire.”

What can I say? My apologies for the delay. It was a long, very tiring weekend. Damon and Stefan barely let me get any sleep the entire time. They wouldn’t stop! They just kept going and going. I’m exhausted. They’ve got some mad skills, though. Luckily, I’m a tough cookie. Not like Elena – such a wuss. Seriously, where did they learn those techniques? Some of that stuff should be illegal! Really, I didn’t think I could take it. They’re scary when they’re angry. That’s why I already promised them, I’ll never steal their diary’s or publish them again. With the exception of the few entries I copied before they caught me, of course. Seriously, those interrogation sessions are pure torture. Wait a minute. What did you think I was talking about?

Elena won’t break. She may have tried to kill me, but Elena is still my best friend. No matter what’s happened in the past, I have to try to help her. Their plan, the torture, it isn’t right. British dramas. Could there be anything better? Well, actually, now that I think about it, there is one thing better than an hour-long British drama. A period drama, hour-long, British. Speaking as someone who has a rather dominate addiction to them, I can assure you, I am in the right. Think about it. Think of the breakneck paced dialogue – ridiculously smart and eloquent – spoken in varying styles of the Queen’s English. Grand historic locations. Inordinate castles built on hundreds of acres of vibrant green grass and towering elder trees. How about the infamous streets of ol’ London Town? Splendid and posh. Lavish balls and ostentatious dinner parties. Lords and ladies dressed in elegant vintage costumes adorned with hand-fastened crystal, buttons, and beads. Quite frankly, I challenge you to find a more romantic, sublimely beautiful, compelling work of fiction than a complex televised character play set in the early 1900′s. It’s the Brit’s forte!

And yet, Downton Abbey is so much more than that. For those who aren’t closely acquainted with this specific type of drama, it’ll be somewhat hard to understand. Downton isn’t your typical formulated performance. Though sharing several esteemed characteristics with its well-known predecessors, Downton‘s strength is its distinctive characters and unwavering ability to remain progressive without fear – skillfully stunning or shocking the audience into many fits of incredibility. I’ve watched many Masterpiece Classics in my day, and I can truly say, this one is different; a show definitely worth watching.

To the ever stoic Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville); to the misunderstood and reserved Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) and her intended, the dashing Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens); to Downton’s leader and commander, the butler, Carson (Jim Carter). Each of Downton‘s unique personalities are intertwined by different relationships, those upstairs and those downstairs. There are characters you love to hate, couples who you’d wish would just get a clue and kiss already, and of course, there is the always magnificent Maggie Smith – who has the aptitude to steal every scene, make us laugh, and regale us with brilliant quotes in the process. “I am a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.”

Although life at Downton is dedicated to social standing and propriety, the residents frequently challenge their everyday standards. Yes, I’m talking to you, Lady Sybil. Torrid affairs. Heartbreak. Backstabbing and more. Yet, despite their differences they’re still a family; not employer and staff, but people who take care of each other. There is never a dull moment between morning breakfast and the chime of the dressing gong. Together they make Downton what it is. Together they fashion a series so impossibly irresistible you’ll just have to watch it.

Confused. Even after hours of contemplation and reexamination, I still feel confused. Truthfully, I had been thrilled and optimistic about a weekly hour-long drama dedicated to Joseph Morgan and his signature smirk. Not to mention, Elijah “Suit Up” Mikaelson. I’m sure we all were and still are. At this point in time, though, I’m not sure what to make of The Originals. I wanted to be awed. I wanted to immediately drop all my allegiances to TVD and pledge my undying devotion to Klaus and the Mikaelson family. As you can imagine, that didn’t happen. It’s not that I didn’t like it. I did. The dialogue was spot on. The direction was fantastic. Elijah was badass. Except, at some point during the episode they lost me. I don’t know if it was horrendous demon b**y plot line, or the fact that Klaus wasn’t up to his usual standards. I just felt and feel. . . confused. I’m not sure how this all will play into a series. I actually have a few questions. One question, actually. What does Klaus think of the name Renesmee?

Part 1

Jane-Anne Deveraux poured the strange girl another drink, pretending to be interested in the girl’s desperate search. Haley’s narcissistic drone had been giving her severe headaches ever since the girl arrived weeks before. The truth was, the werewolf clan had been swept out of the French Quarter years ago. However, she did not share this information. Instead, leading the girl into a well-prepared trap. As night fell, Jane-Anne began the complicated spell, decorating the illuminated makeshift alter with criss-crosses and zigzags of course salt. She raised the volume of the exotic tribal music on the iPod next to her – her favorite background music for such occasions – knowing that the fierce pounding of the drums would make the scene that much more intense. Jane-Anne’s minions surrounded Haley. The girl-wolf was powerless. She fainted the instant the spell was complete, in the hands of her enemies.

“Welcome to the dark side of New Orleans; a supernatural playground, where the living are easily lost, and the dead stick around to play.”

Klaus laughed at the guide’s strangely accurate salutation. It wasn’t odd to find an enlightened soul on Bourbon Street, of course. The city was a strange mix of innocence and sin, living side by side, unaware of one another. He loved this city, he truly did. The memories he had, it made him want to sing. Yet, he would never participate in any kind of ridiculous karaoke free-for-all like Marcel. His protégé was more confident than him in that respect, but unfortunately lacked the people skills Klaus had perfected some years ago.

Marcel willingly took Klaus to Jane-Anne, but seemed to have lost his sanity at some point along the way. The vampires in his care were all too devious and their subtlety seemed to be nonexistent. Klaus was definitely not amused. Marcel killed Jane-Anne for her disobedience without a second thought. He had the witches wrapped around his finger and this troubled Klaus. He frowned, wondering how it seemed so simple for Marcel to follow through. If only he could do such things. The others were starting to realize, most of his threats were empty. That isn’t a plus point for ruling over the dregs of Mystic Falls. Marcel had effortlessly accomplished what Klaus had been trying to do for over a thousand years. It was time he showed some initiative. Soon it would all be his. He’d have it all. Invincibility. Fear. Power. Loyalty. Family.

However and somewhat unfortunately, Marcel’s lackeys were sniffing far too close for his liking. Klaus would need to have a talk with his former apprentice to immediately settle the topic.

He could hear the moans and screams before he even entered the club. Their vulgarity was all well and fine, but Klaus was a traditionalist. He didn’t think their seductive deeds should be for all to see. There was a line and Marcel should never have crossed it.

Elijah was unsure of what to make of his brother’s spontaneous trip to New Orleans and the incoming threat to Klaus’ survival. Depending on his mood, he’d either stop them or help him. He didn’t know which. Rebekah, on the other hand, was more than eager to see her elder brother go up in flames; curious as to why Elijah would even try to contact the treacherous leech. She made no apology for her trust issues, but still thought of Elijah’s trek as foolish.

“I’ll stop searching for his redemption when I believe there is none left to be found,” he replied.

When Elijah approached Klaus later that evening, it was with a heavy heart and a large armoire full of unusual – and just plain crazy – answers. If you would ask him, Elijah’s pursuit of Sophie Deveraux had given him enough insight and power plays to last twelve life times. This was some serious, messed up s**t.

Surprisingly, it had nothing to do with Klaus personally, but rather the defeat of The Mad King, Marcel. Klaus smirked, excitedly. This was a cause he could get behind. In his short time back, Klaus had realized his one true dream. He would reclaim the iron throne and rule over the bayou as his predecessor had done, but with such grace and charm, they’d be bowing at his feet. Predictably, he could not tell the witch this. He had his own plans – plans that he did not and would not share with the others. Klaus would lie, tell them it was all madness. They’d never know the difference.

Sadly, his liquor-fulled one night stand – No offense, sweetheart – had come back to bite him in the ass. Figuratively, at least. Fate was about to play a very, very cruel trick on Klaus; one in which he never ever saw coming.

“I know it’s impossible . . . , ” Haley began as Klaus paled.

“Niklaus, the girl is carrying your child.”

FADE TO BLACK

Back in Mystic Falls . . .

Elena wheezed loudly, as if she felt it unnecessary to concern herself with proper vampire laws. She did not need to breathe, but found it immensely more dramatic if she at least pretended like she was dying. Of course, it felt that way to her. Three days without a single drop of blood had severely weakened the stubborn-as-nails vampire into an escalating state of petrification. Stefan was certain she would not give up swiftly or easily. Elena was still flying in the no-humanity zone, quite calmly, making the brothers extremely anxious to right their wrongs.

“How hungry does she have to be before we can torture some feelings back into her?” Damon had asked.

“A lot hungrier than she is now, apparently.” Stefan replied.

“Maybe I can provide a little excitement.”

The brothers jumped back, shocked and somewhat annoyed. Here she was. Again. Walking back into their lives at the least appropriate moment. Katherine was never good at perfecting her timing, and right now, she was the fly in their ointment. Or a heavenly messenger. Although, they couldn’t be sure. The possibility that Klaus was finally out of their lives seemed like a thought too good to be true. However, they had more important matters to deal with.

Damon entered the small cell-like room to observe a semi-coherent Elena. She was beyond thirsty, but still refused his help. He did not care, she fought. But in truth, he did. He cared. He would starve her and torture her before he would ever let her remain emotionless and care free. He loved her that much. Damon’s torment would be her salvation, but Elena wasn’t as sure. She would play their games, yet should would not break. She would cry and burn, yet she would not break. They would fall long before her.

Stefan closed the door, a triumphant smirk upon his face. The fun was just about to begin.

Part 2

The extreme likelihood that Klaus was a father seem to be outright ridiculous to him and to the FanGirl writing this review. Although, time and time again proved just how unpredictable and curious magic could be. Still, it seemed too absurd. Where was the truth to this nonsensical loophole?

Klaus laughed maniacally. He was in disbelief. How strange it all seemed to be, especially Sophie’s intent to lord Haley and her condition over him – in order to take down Marcel. Where was the hidden camera? Why was he being punked? Even Elijah’s forceful proposal to dispose of Marcel himself had gone unnoticed. Sophie Deveraux was on a mission; a one track mind hellbent on destruction. Things would not end well. Elijah begged Klaus to listen.

It was just a low hum at first, but soon he heard the soft fluttering of a heartbeat. A small, inconceivable heartbeat that would either save him or destroy him. It was still at toss-up at this point. But he couldn’t let them see, how with one little word his entire universe was falling apart around him. Pregnant? Haley was pregnant, with his child? Somewhere deep within his mind, past the blood and the death, and the insanity, there was a remarkable vision of hope – of love and family. Yet, it faded all too soon. Elijah saw the child as a way to regain what they had lost, what had been taken from them, they family that had been taken away from them. He begged Klaus to save Haley and the child, but it was no use. His mind was set.

Sort of.

Klaus had taken one look at Camille – the brave bartender – and decided that she would be sufficient company for his forseeable future in New Orleans. Plus, her resemblance to his lovely Caroline made him feel more secure in his actions. She didn’t mouth off to him. She was intelligent; beautiful. Somehow, he felt she understood him in a way. He indeed was the scared, lost little boy who only wanted redemption. But could he ever be saved? Did he want to be? He knew he wanted to be King, but what would happen after?

“Every king needs an heir.”

It’s no secret; we’ve been anxiously and impatiently anticipating the return of our favorite smiley songstress, Sara Bareilles, for some time now. Frequently and frantically hoping for another breathtaking album to snuggle with at night; wishing desperately that our musical sweet tooth be satisfied before any inkling of gray hair could be seen. Today, I’m happy to say, our prayers have finally (finally!) been answered. Having rediscovered her ultra-pop roots, Sara B once again shows off her amazing vocals and superb writing skills with the lighthearted power anthem, Brave. Although concentrated melodically with delicious good-for-you fluff, the song demonstrates and signifies a true and significant meaning. Be yourself. Speak up. It’s a lesson we all constantly relearn and struggle with, but Sara B makes the fight sound so easy, and so very conquerable.

“You can be amazing. You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug. You can be the outcast, or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love; or you can start speaking up. Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do when they settle ‘neath your skin. Kept on the inside and no sunlight, sometimes a shadow wins. But I wonder what would happen if you say what you wanna say, and let the words fall out. Honestly, I wanna see you be brave.”
