What did you think of A Very Potter Senior Year? What was your favorite song? Favorite line? Favorite character? What is your favorite Team Starkid production? Tell me in the comments!
Almost three years after gaining worldwide über success with the ‘totally awesome,’ A Very Potter Musical, the genius brains behind Team Starkid are back with another spectacular musical parody. This time, the team traveled even deeper into geekdom, taking on the beloved Dark Knight of Gotham City, twisting well-known stories into their own brand of catchy show tunes and hilarious one-liners. Batman (Joe Walker), in this epic tale, begins to realize hero work is a lonely enterprise. Even his trusted butler, Alfred – played by Chris Allen and his very spot-on Michael Caine impression – is deemed unworthy of Batman’s love. Enter, Dick Grayson, a.k.a Robin (Nick Lang). Together the two hero’s are unstoppable, fighting crime and breaking into song. Meanwhile, the rogue villains of Gotham are uniting – ready to take down Batman and his cohort; led by the pun-centric, Sweet Tooth. The candy coated villain, played by Jeff Blim, is flawless in his standout performance. Not to miss, is the evildoer’s anthem, Rogues Are We. In the end, Batman saves the day, picking up some knowledge along the way, finding friendship in the least likely of places. The musical comedy easily induce’s side-splitting laughter and the jovial eighties styled tunes will stay with you for hours on end. There is no doubt. It’s another effortless hit for Team Starkid. Take a look, friends. Tell me what you think.

Do you want to go on a journey? A journey into . . . space? The answer is yes. Yes, you do. Once again, the lovely and talented people of Team Starkid (The brains behind A Very Potter Musical) have proven just how awesome they are with their newest hit, Starship. Here’s the story: All Bug (Joey Richter) wants to be is a Starship Ranger, but he has one problem. He’s not human. Can this one bug make his dreams come true and save the universe in the process? With music and lyrics by Darren Criss, Starship is one musical and hilarious adventure into space.
Late last night, the interwebs lit up with the news that Team Starkid – also known as Starkid Productions – is bringing a new musical our way in 2011. Little is known about the future musical, only that it will be premiering in Chicago (Good news for me) and will hit YouTube shortly after. However, after seeing this video, I’ll take a guess that we’re taking a long journey . . . into space.

Tonight is the premiere of A Very Potter Sequel (Yay!) and to celebrate we’ve been featuring Team Starkid all this week on the blog. We’ve seen AVPM, M&MD and Little White Lie. Now, since the anticipation of AVPS is killing me, let’s look back at some of the best songs and lines from A Very Potter Musical. Here is some of the cast (Darren Criss, Joey Richter, Nick Lang, Brian Holden & More) singing your favorite songs live:
For this Discovery Monday I let you in on the greatest non-secret on the internet

In 2009 a group of University of Michigan students had a revelation about Harry Potter, “The character Draco Malfoy is always picking on Harry’s best friend, Hermione. And just during the reading of it, we were like, Draco does he have a crush on her? We thought it was going to be a twist that Draco would have a crush on Hermione.”
Nick Lang continues, “This idea of a song just kind of came into our heads that was “I Feel Like I’m In Danger of Falling In Love with Hermione Granger.” And so that was the first idea, and then we were like this could be a whole musical. You could make a musical out of Harry Potter.” – via Michigan Radio
And so, A Very Potter Musical was born.
The original two-act play made its worldwide debut on YouTube in July. Now, a year after its debut, the musical has almost 2 million views. The play takes a different look into the world of Harry Potter (A hilarious look), while still paying respect to the original. The tons of pop culture references and amazing music make even the most musical-hater love this play. I can make you a promise. You will still be singing these catchy and “totally awesome” (You will get that AVPM reference later) songs a year after you see it.
I can not tell you how much I love A Very Potter Musical. It’s definitely made me love the books and the movies even more. It also has given me hours and hours of hilarious delight from the infinite AVPM references I can make in real life and while watching the movies. If you love Harry Potter, there’s no doubt in my mind that you will love this too (Maybe even more than the movies).
Now, I don’t want to say anymore, because I think that the joy of seeing the musical for the first time, is not knowing what you’re getting yourself into. So get yourselves “back to Hogwarts” (Another AVPM reference. I do that a lot).
The group of Michigan students now called Team Starkid/Starkid Productions have 2 more YouTube sensations under their belt, Little White Lie and M&MD and will soon have a third, A Very Potter Sequel. The sequel comes out . . . THURSDAY! That’s right, July 22!
I’ll be putting a AVPM/AVPS discussion on the blogs Facebook page so you can discuss all your favorite quotes and songs. And all this week I will be featuring Team Starkid on the blog so be prepared for total awesomeness!
