Florence + The Machine “Over the Love”

Green Light In My Eyes

When the announcement was made, that my beloved Florence + The Machine had fashioned a brand-new tune for Baz Luhrmann’s much-anticipated film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, the appropriate response had been to run around my home in a sporadic like fashion, screaming at the top of my lungs. When a swarm of new trailers for the film had been released, and we were graced with a short preview of the song, my one and only reply consisted of short incoherent babbles, mainly composed of words like, love and need, and now. As you can imagine, when a full-length preview for the track appeared only mere hours ago, my immediate response was to listen to the opulent anthem repeatedly, and to swiftly share it with all of you. You’re welcome. Over the Love is another Florence classic of grandiose perfection. With a luminous clarity to her voice, Florence melts seamlessly into Gatsby’s vogue world – the lyrics detailed with heavy influence from the original novel. Florence’s rare ability to speak directly to your soul allows this track to appear like the night sky, filled with fireworks and shimmering stars. The song surrounds you, holds you until you hear nothing but its echo in your mind. I’ll guarantee you’ll love it.

What do you think of Over the Love? How many times have you listened to it so far? Are you excited to hear any other songs from the soundtrack? Will you see The Great Gatsby? Have you read the novel? Want to confess your love-obsession with Florence + The Machine? Tell me in the comments!

Trailer Talk: Beautiful Creatures

It’s magic, you know?

First off, I swear to you, if I had known about this, I would have contacted you about it sooner, because you know this is right up my alley. Of course, the level of impressive marvel is increased with the inclusion of Seven Devils by my pal, Florence. But, that’s neither here nor there. The truth of the matter is, this is one phenomenal trailer, for a film with stupendous potential. How do I know? Well, I might have fangirled a bit when I saw it. That’s all the proof you need, really.

Based on the novel of the same name – by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl – Beautiful Creatures centers around the forbidden love between Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich) and Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert). Lena is a witch (Otherwise known as a Caster) and her family doesn’t quite approve of the match. No surprise there. However, time is fleeting for the couple, as Lena must choose between the Light and the Dark before her sixteenth birthday. Others try to influence her and test her commitment – even her Siren cousin, Ridley (Emmy Rossum), and Incubus uncle (Jeremy Irons) – but the real threat is Serafine (Emma Thompson), the deadliest of them all, who will stop at nothing to sway Lena into joining the dark side. As you can see, the two are in for a mess of trouble.

The film arrives in theatres February 14, 2013. Until then, though, I think it’s best if we’re all on the same page. We have a new book to read, don’t we?

What did you think of the trailer? Have you read the novel? Will you see the movie? What was your favorite line? Favorite scene? Love the song? Anyone else notice the easily spotted similarities between this trailer and the first Twilight trailer? Tell me in the comments!

Florence + The Machine “Lover to Lover”

 Fire & Water

I’ve been losing sleep. I’ve been keeping myself awake. I’ve been wandering the streets for days and days, and days. Going from row to row, bed to bed, lover to lover, and black to red. But I believe. I believe . . . there’s no salvation for me now; no space among the clouds. And I feel I’m heading down, but that’s alright. That’s alright!

And I’ve been taking chances. I’ve been setting myself up for the fall. And I’ve been keeping secrets from my heart and from my soul. Going from row to row, bed to bed, lover to lover, and black to red. But I believe. I believe . . . there’s no salvation for me now; no space among the clouds. And I feel I’m heading down, but that’s alright. That’s alright!

Artist of the Month: Florence + The Machine – Between Two Lungs

“I tend to lose myself in the moment. I’m not very good at holding back. I don’t know how to do this without feeling everything. My emotions are the tool I use to perform.” – Florence Welch

Dear Florence,

Wow, what an amazing month this has been. I can’t believe it’s over already. We’ve learned a lot about you, about your music, in such a short time frame. It seems a bit unreal. You’re a bit unreal, to be honest. A bit ethereal, magical, in a way. Always evolving, you create characters on and off the stage, with elaborate gowns shining in vibrant color, unexpected robes, capes, flowers, and headdresses.Your voice, so soft and delicate at times, ardent like thunder the next. Listening to your acoustic renditions, they leave me speechless. What you have is pure, raw talent. Nothing can compete with that. You’re a performance artist. When you’re on stage, it’s as if you’re on a different plane than everyone else. With every expressive theatrical movement, every spirited dash across the platform (Your pirouettes are flawless, by the way), you take your performance and your audience past the standard, propelling yourself and your voice into the beyond. I guess I’m at a handicap, never having the opportunity to see you perform live. However, the countless hours spent watching your phenomenal concert footage make up for that (partially), I like to think. I know, it’s not the same. I’ll make you a promise, though. One day, in the not too distant future, I’ll be there. I’ll be there, center stage, front row, screaming my lungs out. Guaranteed.

Artist of the Month: Florence + The Machine – The Music (Part 2)

“I’ve got my ideal job. I like to sing. I like to dance. I like to bang drums and dress up. And someone pays me. It’s incredible!” - Florence Welch

Her music makes your heart beat. It throws you into a new world, a world of fantastical charm. Florence + The Machine are the unequaled, the unmatched; a feeling, a sound, an image you’ve only ever seen in your dreams. Each inspired lyric, each innovative rhythm join together to create an alternative domain outside of reality. A place where you can feel every beat, every rhyme. I imagine it to be a place that has been replicated exactly from a story book, completed by magnificent technicolor, a wonderland ruled by our favorite crimson haired beauty. Her music has the ability to encircle you perfectly, until you only see what she wants you to see. Enter at your own risk, for there is no way out. She will captivate you, hold you, and never let you go.

You can see her running toward something – someone – as if she’s in need of an escape. She’s crying out. This is the last resort. No Light, No Light. Her love is tragic. Broken. Hear the pain, the defeat, in the inflections of her words. It’s ethereal. The pounding, ritualistic drums fight against the impassioned choir. Our heroine is in love-lost. Listen to her plea. ‘What has happened to our love? You are my everything. I’d do anything to make you stay.’ Asking questions with no answers has made her unnerved. She must find her way out of this darkened maze, clinging to her mate, fighting for the love that has been misplaced.

Artist of the Month: Florence + The Machine – The Music (Part 1)

“We are Florence + The Machine and we demand human sacrifices! We want your bodies!”

You can feel it in your bones, spreading its symphonic sounds equally throughout, as if they were raindrops sinking into your overheated skin. Intricately woven refrains, utterly unique and unmatched, make your heart scream, as though he were attempting to flee the safety of his home. Her voice prevails in the delirium. She will not go unanswered. The music of Florence + The Machine connects seamlessly with the soul inside, leaving an infallible imprint. There is nothing like it. You can not escape.

Follow me. Step through the looking-glass. Peer into the light. Give her your soul. Pledge your Rabbit Heart and feel the music pulsate around you.

Imagine running into the depths of an enchanted forest, fighting the mystical elements for survival, coming across a scarlet beauty. Listen to her sing. Consumed by her love, she must find the courage to overcome the dark recesses of despair. She must conquer her fears and slaughter her opponents. Hear the quiver of her voice, the steady heartbeat of the staccato drum, and the cry’s of passion. Join her prayer, in battle. Embrace the frenzy as you Raise. It. Up.

Artist of the Month: Florence + The Machine

“Making music, it’s such a personal thing. You’re always making music; you’re making music that pleases you, and you kind of think, you know, ‘who the f**k else would listen to this?’ And so it’s really amazing to me how many people have taken it so to heart.” – Florence Welch

I guess it was inevitable, that we’d end up here, dedicating an entire month to the one and only, Florence + The Machine. We have met before, haven’t we? You know of my complete and utter devotion, some might say, obsession with the beautiful songstress Florence Welch and her flawless hymns? Yes, I thought so. It’s hardly a secret, given the circumstances. How many Florence posts are we at now? I’ve lost count. When I thought about composing a second edition of Press Play: Artist of the Month, I debated posting another lengthy love-letter to my beloved. There are only so many ways to accurately word the magical power Florence + The Machine possess. Then I completely chucked that thought out the window, because it was incredibly inaccurate. My ability to illustrate the melodious and lyrical magnetism seen in every Florence song is endless. I’m a fangirl. It’s what I do.

Press Play Friday: All-Stars

The Best of . . .

As BLOGAVERSARY week comes to a close, I thought for today’s Press Play it would be nice to look back at a few of our favorite featured artists from the past two years. Many talented musicians have taken the spotlight since the segment’s introduction – which featured Mumford & Sons; singer/songwriters, Pop stars, rockers, indie-alternative groups. The selection has been vast and varied. It has been a place that has introduced you to up & coming artists, fan favorites, and previous unknowns. I hope to continue that tradition, bringing you even more new artists and fresh music for your lovely ears to devour. My music obsession knows no bounds and it won’t be long (Next week, actually) until you’ll have another song or album to download; another artist to discover. Press Play has been and will always be a home for all music lovers.

Oh, look. It’s Florence + The Machine. You’re not surprised, are you? You shouldn’t be, seeing as I’m kinda (a lot) obsessed with this band and have frequently posted about the magical awesomeness they possess. “You want to keep Florence in your pocket and have her sing you lullabies. Or maybe, that’s just me?” (Ceremonials – Album Review, 11/8/11).

Florence + The Machine “Spectrum”

Say My Name

Here we are again. You know I just can’t help myself when it comes to our favorite redheaded songbird. This time, Florence is back with another visual adventure – defining the next hit-single off of Ceremonials. We’ve come to expect the usual imaginative, out of the box musical spectacular when it comes to Florence’s styled music videos, and I can assure you, this time is no different. Spectrum begins with ease; Florence’s stunning look intensified by sharp cuts to her electric auburn hair. Fiery color. Sharp reflections of light. As the song gains momentum, our songstress is encircled by an assembly of ballet dancers swaying to the song’s fierce sounds. Florence’s moves are grandiose, larger than life. She is a disco queen. She rises from the cool blue water like a sea goddess. She even has her own Mini Me! The visual accompaniment to the signature dance-track is complete with a rainbow of bright tones, theatrical choreography, and the slightest bit of the risqué. The final scene brings Florence to her knees, crawling toward us, closing the sensational power-anthem. I always seem to find myself wondering what it is I exactly watched after each of these unique performances from Flo, but by the end, I can’t help but be wonderstruck by the originality of the piece. You will love Spectrum for the song, obviously, but will be enchanted by the video’s fun, quirky nature. Take a look, my friends; observe the Flo in her natural habitat. Tell me what you think.

Press Play Friday: Fresh Music 4/27/12

New music, anyone?

Press Play Friday is back with another Fresh Music edition! Prepare, music nerds, to squee. This week, I’ve collected some of the newest tracks from a few of our favorite artists and mixed in a couple of mint-condition tunes from an up-in-coming singer/songwriter ensemble. It’s a hodgepodge of sorts, each one an accomplished virtuoso in their genre. All of our previously featured artists have new albums on the horizon – putting an end to the tortuous wait for many fans – while the newest inclusion to this ragtag group is already making a splash in the music world.

Ho Hey was one of the first tracks to be released off of the debut album from singer/songwriter group, The LumineersI’m not ashamed to admit, I’ve had this song on repeat for the past week. Its easy simplicity, combined with a melodious, singable foot-tapping chorus, make this sweet chantey a perfect road-trip love song. You’ll find yourself softly singing this quick, fun tune randomly throughout your day, putting a smile on your face in no time. Of course, one must give honorable mention to the introductory track from the group’s self-titled record. Flowers In Your Hair boasts the same kind of catchy chorus as Ho Hey. The vigorous drum beat and guitar work ceremoniously together to create another unforgettable track from The Lumineers
