Comic Con 2012 Wrap-Up Extravaganza

The Return of the Nerds

Once again, Comic Con has come and gone, leaving hours upon hours of interviews, sneak peeks, and trailers in its wake. For those who couldn’t attend this year’s event, like myself, I’ve compiled a few highlights, a few of your favorites, so you too can be up-to-date will all the latest from the Con.

Breaking Dawn (Part 2)

Twilight‘s reign over Comic Con has finally come to a close. Sigh. The highly anticipated panel did not disappoint, as fans were treated to Rob Pattinson’s classic one-liners, equal parts awkwardness and hilarity, and seven minutes of the final film. From what I’ve heard, the footage shown detailed the early hours after Bella Cullen’s transformation, including Bella and Edward’s first hunt together, and Bella’s attempts at acting human for the blissfully unaware, Charlie. Unluckily for us, the scenes from the series last installment are unavailable to the rest of us non-con goer’s. However (start getting excited), you can view the rest of the panel right here, right now. Just click on Mr. Pattinson and he will direct you to your new destination. Enjoy!

Movie Review: Bel Ami

“Does your husband tell you you’re beautiful?”

Source: ROBsessed Blog Almost two years after production completed on Bel Ami, the indie film has finally arrived to eager moviegoers. Well, sort of. The official theatrical release for the film isn’t until June 8th, but that didn’t stop the powers at be from giving us a sneak peek. It’s times like these that I’m grateful for iTunes. Based on Guy de Maupassant’s 1885 novel, Bel Ami is a seductive drama, lined with deceptive characters with ill-intentions. A social climber using his looks and charm to get what he desires most. Power. Respect. Wealth. Here we find an intriguing plot, rich with gritty realism and soul.

The Story: Paris, 1890. It’s easy to see the motivation behind the actions of Georges Duroy (Robert Pattinson). Penniless and out-of-work, Georges longs for something more; money, power, women – everything he doesn’t have. Georges finds his opportunity when he is welcomed into the inner circle of Charles Forestier: a newspaper man. His wife, Madeleine (Uma Thurman), takes Georges under her wing, helping him write a series of articles about his time as a soldier. Their friends are captivated by the young man, willing to help the charming stranger. Instantly, Georges finds himself attracted to Clotilde (Christina Ricci). The feeling is mutual, both seeking each other out for a specific purpose. However, when Clotilde is no longer useful, Georges moves on. He soon finds Madeleine to be just what he needs. She is his ticket to success, the driving force behind his rise to power. Yet, he is still unable to gain the respect he wants, craves. It’s a story of sex; power. Using one to gain the other. There is no momentous revelation or great change for these characters. Their reality is their obsession.

Trailer Talk: Cosmopolis

Let’s Take a Ride

Source: Robert Pattinson Life

It’s the (teaser) trailer we’ve all been waiting for; the first look at Cosmopolis. Director David Cronenberg and Robert Pattinson have teamed up to bring the Don DeLillo novel to the big screen, which follows a day in the life of egocentric multimillionaire, Eric Packer. I must warn you, this is thirty-three seconds of unadulterated brilliant, crazy moviemaking. The clip boasts a series of short scenes and indescribable visuals, causing us to question – forcing us to beg for more. It’s a damn tease, that’s what it is. Some will be surprised, as this is a complete departure for our favorite actor. A dark, catastrophic journey on the streets of a futuristic New York metropolis; salacious limousine rendezvous’; mangled scenes of violence. Others will be surprised, simply because this has all the telltale signs of being an amazing film. As of now, we have no exact confirmation when Cosmopolis will drive into theatres (in the U.S), but be sure to check back here for all the latest news and the premiere of the official full-length trailer. In the meantime, while we’re not-so patiently waiting, let’s get the conversation started. Head down to the comments and tell me what you thought about this insane trailer. Don’t worry. It’s okay. You may FanGirl as much as you need. I understand.

UPDATE: Cosmopolis will be shown in limited release (Isn’t that always the way?) starting August 17th, 2012!

Press Play Friday: Songs from the Movies

There’s No Business, Like Show Business

Source: Google Images

One of the most important elements of a film is the soundtrack: the sweet symphonic sounds that make the film complete, the songs that bring a scene to life. Over the years, the classic film soundtrack has transformed from a simple score, to blockbuster musical numbers, to today’s popular renovated recordings. Music in film is highly influential to our culture. I’m sure we can all remember that time in our childhood when we first heard Somewhere Over the Rainbow, or as the years progressed, the first time we listened to My Heart Will Go On (and the countless times after that). Songs from the cinema complete a substantial part of our everyday music obsessed lives. Whether it be an impressive orchestral piece, a contemporary classic, or a distinct melody we have never heard before, we all have our favorites. Would you like to hear a few of mine?

Probably one of the best modern musicals of all time, the spectacular (spectacular) Moulin Rouge sets itself apart with its inventive soundtrack of reimagined tunes. Featured songs by Elton John, The Police, and Paul McCartney make up a small part of this set list. You will most likely remember Ewan McGregor’s fantastic rendition of ‘Your Song,’ but the highlight (and my favorite) of the score is, Elephant Love Medley. Undoubtedly memorable, the track plays as compilation of popular love songs. “How wonderful life is, now you’re in the world.”

Movie Review: Breaking Dawn – Part 1

The Saga Continues

Hello! This is Kim the FanGirl reporting live from my local movie theatre. I’m just moments away from stepping into the darkened cinema for my first viewing of Breaking Dawn – the fourth movie production of Stephenie Meyer’s beloved series. Fans are shaking with anticipation and excitement. They’re gripping their armrests, waiting for the opening credits to arrive. They’re clutching their Edward collectors cups and muttering something about feathers. They’re starting the film! Squee! Sorry. Here we go. We first see . . .

We interrupt this broadcast with breaking news. We’ve just been told that Team Edward and Team Jacob have actually put aside their differences; and both have agreed to represent Team Renesmee for the film. Sources can neither confirm nor deny these rumors, but fans are demanding to know the truth.

For more on this story, we take you to our special correspondent, Set In Motion. As a fellow TwiHard, FanGirl, and blogger, she was first on the scene to witness the epic romance intensify between Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. Today, she was kind enough to share her review of the film with all of you. Warning! Possible spoilers ahead. Here, take a look at The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Now back to you, Kim!

Um . . . I think I’m going to need a moment here. I can’t even . . . Wow. Okay. Edward. Wow. You know what? I want to hear what you thought of Breaking Dawn. Gather all your thoughts and tell me what you thought of the movie.

What did you think of Breaking Dawn: Part 1? Love it? Hate it? What was your favorite scene? Favorite character? Favorite line? Can’t wait for Part 2? How did it compare to the book? Tell me in the comments!

Cullen. Edward Cullen.

Let the countdown begin!

Attention, Twihard’s! Attention! In approximately 30 (long, infuriating) days, Breaking Dawn: Pt.1 will hit your local cinema. Like you didn’t know. With expectations high, our fellow Twihard community eagerly awaits the chance to, once again, appreciate the story we fell in love with once upon a Twilight (See what I did there?). Despite monotone voice’s of doom (a.k.a. Pale, Sadface Chick), bad wigs (WTF? Carlisle), and bad (screen) writing, deep down there still lies the excitement and optimism we held onto long ago. Right? Right. After all, this is Twilight we’re talking about. All you need to do, is voice a few choice words and we’ll be instantaneously transformed into our original Twilight FanGirl selves. Ahem! Leg hitch. Volvo. Meadow. Feathers. Edward. I told you so. You know I can hear you screaming. Now, to help you fill those long, sleepless nights spent staring into your Edward pillow – dreaming of headboards and feathers – I’ve assembled a little treat for you. With 30 Snapshots of Edward Cullen, you will experience the bronze haired God in all his HQ glory. With a photo-a-day, you will have Edward to keep you company until November 18th. No need to thank me, since this is just an excuse for me to post pretty RPattz pictures. Enjoy!

WARNING! The images you are about to see may cause the following side effects:

1. Robward induced dreams/daydreams (Please proceed with caution. Some instances may be NSFW)

2. Immediate need to abandon work, family, and friends to read copious amounts of lemony fanfiction

3. Incoherent thoughts, drooling, and/or moaning

4. Spontaneous Combustion

Have a good day!

Trailer Talk: Bel Ami

I Love Your Top Hat

Ahem! *Cough* First official teaser trailer for Robert Pattinson’s new movie Bel Ami is finally here. *Cough* What? Did I say something? Alright, you got me. Everyone knows we’re big fans of the RPattz here, so it’s no surprise that I’m super excited to see this movie. Based on the 1885 novel by Guy de Maupassant, Bel Ami tells the story of young Georges Duroy (Pattinson) who charms and seduces his way to power, manipulating the most influential and wealthiest women in Paris. Now, I would tell you my first reaction to the trailer, but it’s rather embarrassing. Tongue meets floor. You get the picture. So, why don’t you just watch it and come back here when you’re finished. Okay? See you in a few.

Back already? Good. Wow. I see you’re having breathing problems. It’s alright. Deep breaths. In. Out. Let it sink in for a bit. You good? Okay. No release date for Bel Ami has been set, as of yet, so all you FanGirl’s will just have to watch the trailer over and over again. That’s not a problem, is it?

Movie Review: Water for Elephants

Welcome to The Most Spectacular Show on Earth!

Source: Photobucket

If you look closely, you’ll see there is something different about this big screen adaptation. Under this Big Top, you’ll find magic. Unlike most movies today, Water for Elephants is classic storytelling at it’s best. Actions, decisions, consequences, words; it’s about following these wonderful characters in a timeless journey of love, loss, and finding a place in this world where you truly belong.

The Story: Set in 1930′s America, Water for Elephants centers around a young Jacob Jankowski (Robert Pattinson). This Cornell educated veterinary student seems to be set in life, but suddenly loses everything after his parents die in a tragic car crash. With no money, no home, Jacob hops aboard the nearest train and finds more than he bargained for. He finds The Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, a struggling second-rate one ring circus. When put in charge of the shows menagerie, Jacob finds himself immediately enchanted by the shows star attraction, Marlena (Reese Witherspoon) and her amazing equestrian act. The only problem is, she is married to August (Christoph Waltz), the charming but unstable ringmaster and owner of the troubled depression era circus. As Jacob’s journey with the show continues, August purchases Rosie – the liquor loving elephant who is seemingly incapable of following a single command; that is, until Jacob discovers the secret to make Rosie perform. Jacob learns that there is more to this circus than beauty and glitz, but what lies beneath the tent floor is violent and malicious. Yet, the true lesson is looking beyond that and finding love amongst the thorns.

Trailer Talk: Water for Elephants

Prepare yourselves

I’m sorry. I’m trying my hardest to put two coherent words together, to tell you about this wonderful book and amazing trailer, but I am failing miserably. The only thing that seems to be running through my mind . . . Well, it’s embarrassing. The incoherent mumble of a few disconnected sentences that contain words like, “Oh. My. God,” and “Beautiful,” are ever abundant when I watch this fantastic trailer. Yes. I said fantastic. I say this, because I’ve read the book Water for Elephants (*cough* Check out my book review *cough*) and know that what I see here is almost exactly what I pictured in my head. I also say this, because, look at it! I . . . don’t . . . ugh . . . just watch it . . .

I think I need a moment to myself. We’ll talk later. Is it April yet?
