One of my brilliant readers wondered – after noticing my theatrical flair when it comes to writing vampire based television recaps – if I had or intended to pursue writing fanfiction. Being the avid fanfic reader and hopeful author that I am, of course I had thought about it. In fact, in the weeks previous to her inquiry, I had already started taking down notes for several possible stories that had been rolling around in my head – never intending for others to read my work, only committing to the process for my enjoyment alone. But when she brought it up, I couldn’t help but think, why the hell not? What have I got to lose?
The conversation that soon followed gave way to the idea of not only posting my attempts at fanfiction, but my previously unread short stories and poetry, as well.
I know this isn’t the proper format for displaying fiction – there are several hundred articles on why you should never post online – but I figured, it’s a start and an effective way to get my stories out to the public. I assure you, though. Unlike some, I will never post any work I intend to publish officially (That goes for all of my stories and poetry). This is supposed to be fun! You read fiction. I write fiction. It’s a match made in heaven.
This is a different side of my writing that I hope you’ll like. Let’s face it, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Though I had initially wanted to keep my fiction writer personality separate, it was only a matter of time before you got to see her in her element. She was getting stronger, post by post. Don’t worry, though. My FanGirl side is still alive and well. She’ll never leave. She just has a new partner-in-crime. You’ll get more Kim the FanGirl than ever before! How awesome is that?
So . . . it is with great pleasure and vast excitement – add a bit of fear in there, as well – that I welcome you to The Writer’s Room.
