Fangirls

It’s hard to believe there was a time in my life before fangirl, before I was able to recognize that I was neither, simply, nerd or geek . . . nor mentally unstable; that I wasn’t the only one who experienced regular intervals of intense infatuation and possessed unbridled levels of fierce enthusiasm. It was a time before I knew who I was and was always meant to be.

Nowadays, we throw the word around so often that it starts to lose meaning. It begins to take on this large anamorphic shape we associate with certain buzz-words, like squee.

I started this blog because I wanted to teach the world about real fangirls, to show them we’re not just a bunch of card-carrying, screaming psychopaths with stick-on Tom Hiddleston tattoos.

What it means to be a fangirl, what it truly means to be a slightly obsessive fan? Well, I don’t think anyone can say it better than YouTube user, Only Leigh:

“We are fangirls; and that’s so much more than just coursing endlessly through Tumblr, looking for leaked photos of your favorite actor, or waiting thirty hours in the Comic Con convention hall for your show’s panel and peeing into a plastic bag to save your seat. It’s a way of life. It defines us.”

What do you think it means to be a fangirl? Is it something that you are and forever will be, or just a temporary state of being? Are you familiar with the five stages of fangirling? Which fandom makes you geek-out the most? Tell me in the comments!

    Lol. Thanks for sharing these.

    1. You are very welcome. Definitely check out her other videos, though. There’s even more fangirl hilarity (e.g. Sherlock spoils EVERYTHING).
