Artist of the Month: Jason Mraz – 1000 Things

“Music is a weapon in the war against unhappiness.” – Jason Mraz

There is something so peculiar about Jason Mraz. He is able to create these intricately detailed lines of poetry and addictive harmonies so effortlessly, with just the flick of his wrist, completely and forever changing our music-dependent souls. Utterly remarkable and singular to him, there is no one else who can write these stylistic, harmonious narratives with the same degree of unrivaled perfection, who can surpass even himself in concert. How does he do it, affecting us so with his melodies, that we wonder how we ever did without?

Each song is a story with varying narrators and personalities, detailing the schizophrenic nine lives of our esteemed songwriter. Every performance is unique and overflowing with truth and humor. Be it a love-lost man fighting to believe his mate will find her way back into his arms, a quirky and sexy spiel about that unusual woman, or a confession made entirely of dreams. Jason Mraz has the uncanny ability to make us dance without restriction, to make us sing along sprouting clever quotes about romance and life.

It’s in the 1000 Things he says, in the words his sings, in the jazz-speak he designs from the sounds he hears in his imagination. How he admits his faults in sweet melodic kisses. How he confesses his love, but runs away from it, seeking some higher power, causing us to miss what has been lost. He is overjoyed and over-loved, erasing memories and living in their place. He is those thousand things and nothing at all. He is the love song which you create in your head.

I’ve seen a thousand things in one place, but I stopped my counting when I saw your face.”

His is the song you seek when you meet that sweetheart soulmate, the one who is bordering the right side of crazy, but who is absolutely perfect for you. The song that makes you move and sway, the one that serenades you to sleep. Your relationship is Not So Usual, but you wouldn’t have it any other way.

“This is the most unusual story of a most unusual girl. She’s the paint in my picture of a most unusual world.”

Although, most know him for his easy-living, free-style tunes, his ballads can make even the hardest of hearts melt at an instant. When he professes his desires, his desperate wishes, the tears drop one by one as the melancholy melody softly discloses all. A love of a lifetime long gone, swept away with the tide. A soul heart beating, Sleeping to Dream for a moment of blissful peace. Eyes closed, an indescribably beautiful sight. He paints a picture of a truthful nightmare in Technicolor.

“Sleeping to dream about you and I’m so damn tired of having to live without you, but I don’t mind.”
